Money-Supermarket Porn Outrage

Is it just me or is anyone else a little angry Angry with Money-Supermarket for using the presenter of a Hardcore porn movie - Snoop Dogg (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snoop_Dogg%27s_Doggystyle) & massive sexist in their TV adverts.

What message does it send to children when a family brand like Money-Supermarket endorses people involved with a predatory industry that is already too much a part of mainstream culture.

I'm ashamed to say it (mainly as I sound like my mum), but I for one will not be using them from now on!

I think you'd be a long time waiting it you wanted everyone in adverts to be beyond reproach.

I wouldn't recognise Snoop Doggy Dog if he jumped up and bit me, and I only take notice of ads if they are irritating.

That ice skater advertising yoghurt for example, why does she pull a face that suggests it tastes like vomit? Confused

Sorry, im not really bothered either. Didnt know that Snoop Dogg presents porn though

MoneySupermarket aren't a 'family brand', they're a price comparison website. Most children wouldn't have a clue who Snoop Dogg is, their parents would - who are the demographic for this ad.
Iggy Pop has sold car insurance, Johnny Rotten has sold butter; I don't think they'll be corrupting the nation's children any time soon....

tracey he did a webshow once, there is a cracking video online somewhere where he interviewed some of the cast of Sons of Anarchy and after every break they had the lot of them were more and more stoned. I've always found snoop likeable, he's no role model but I don't think he's ever professed to be.

Iggy Pop advertised insurance, he was a huge drug addict back in the day.

Hardcore porn presenter?

Family brand?

Huh?

Fair enough, I see the consensus. My daughter (15) knew he made that Porn vid (she told me) - I think they are exposed to this sort of thing far more than us and we probably don't know enough to protect then properly. We can plead ignorance, but surely that's just aka "crap parenting"

"What message does it send to children ...."
Will Children know he is?
Really couldn't care less tbh .
I wouldn't know snoop dog anyway.

I'm more surprised he's done the advert than to find out he's been involved in porn. I think children will come across him far more in music (Katy perry?) than they will a money supermarket advert.

My DD is 16, she listens to Motley Crue and idolises Tommy Lee (she's a drummer herself). Does this make me a crap parent then because Tommy made a porn vid with Pammy?

Meh! It's an advert for a service used by adults

It's not like he's presenting CBeebies

teenagetantrums · 04/02/2014 12:06

I sure my children will not care what a person in an advert has done before, they might find it amusing, being teenagers if it said at the bottom of the screen ' this person has been involved with porn' how else would they know?

I think though you're seeing interconnections where they don't exist.

Snoop made a porn video: OK, I'm anti-porn, so that probably wouldn't make me buy a product he advertises.

But Money Supermarket is far from a family brand so I'm not sure it sends any message to children. It's not like he's presenting on the Disney channel.

It sounds to me like a tragic attempt to make money supermarket edgy. Doomed to failure, just like Iggy and the car insurance.

Funniest OP I've read in a while. Didnt know about the porn vid. But as he's a big pot head and raps about being a P.I.M.P. I've never considered him any kind of role model. I like snoop though.

I wouldn't call anyone a crap parent (I have enough faults) - we all do what we think is right or our kids.

I think Tommy Lee etc is a bit different as that not mainstream - IMO Tommy Lee wouldn't do a TV ad anyway (probably has more self worth).

MSupermarket is a mainstream/family brand and they've said they are doing this to take on the Meerkat which appeals to kids more than any ad I know - so we know the audience they are going for!

UABVVVVVU. OP, this outrage on this subject suggests that if you are logically consistent in what you find right/wrong, you think that men who have worked in the porn industry should never be seen by children outside of work, must hide their success in other endeavours from children's knowledge etc etc. I can understand if you were cross because you were thinking of something he had done that was well known and depraved and illegal, but he hasn't (there's nothing wrong with porn in theory, just when bosses are controlling, money grabbing etc).

I'm less concerned by him.. and more concerned that as usual it's a man surrounded by "arm candy" women not wearing much of all.

I'd be focusing on how your 15 year old knows so much about porn, frankly. Even I didn't know Snoop had 'presented' a porn film, and I'm 33.

How exactly does one present a porn film, anyway?

CatAmongThePigeons · 04/02/2014 23:10

I know who Snoop Dogg is, my children don't know who he is, but him being surrounded by women is not on at all, although is/was part of his style.
