AIBU?

To think Yankee candles

Should all be equally smelly? I have brought several Yankee candles from Asda's recently for £9 and £12 each, they were the 'jar' type.. I got a variety of different scents but found that each one of them didn't really smell only if you were really close until your nose was almost singed by the wick My DIL bought me a Yankee candle from a garden centre which was a large pillar type in glass, it really has a strong scent...so AIBU to think that all the Yankee candles should be of the same quality and same smell strength irrespective of if you buy it in a supermarket or Yankee shop/garden centre (who have a bigger range?)...The supermarket ones really didn't smell at all no matter which scent I chose (4 in all).

The tiny (£1) ones from Asda really smell.

Do Asda still only sell the 'Perfect Home' range? If so then these aren't the same as the original jars etc and from what I understand are made using the discarded bits of wax etc from the jar making process so the quality is reduced which is reflected in burning time and the price.

I don't know what they sell in Asda's, but in Asda they do their own brand-type candles that are nice, but are NOT Yankee candles.

I bought a jar one as a treat to myself over xmas,I won't buy one again, it hardly smelled at all in comparison to the tartlet version. I'll stick to then now, cheap and and last ages and strong scent.

Have you tried Mandarin cranberry? It's gorgeous!

I had some think I had some tartlets for christmas.... are they are the one's without a wick you put in a burner? If so that is what I have. How long are they supposed to last for? Mine have last for ages?!!

The Yankee Simply Home/ Perfect Home range (or whatever they're called) that they sell in Asda have a lower percentage of scent in them, hence being cheaper than the proper Yankee candles you can buy elsewhere - if you look at them they do have a different name, but I think it's a bit of a con... Much as I love Yankee candles, I tend to make my own (see LaurieFairyCake's epic thread about it) as they are dead easy and sooooo much cheaper! Grin

Have you tried 'White Linen and Lace'? That's quite strong. I have lots of Yankees; they range in smell strength but that's down to my own 'nose' as other people can smell ones that I think are weak and to them they are strong.

I've tried Mandarin Cranberry, DameDiazepam, it's a lovely scent.

My favourites are Evening Air, Pink Blush, Orange Starfruit, Spa Fresh, Warm Woollen Mittens, Ylang Ylang (smell just like Lancôme's Poeme)... the list goes on...

I have one of those, summer berries I think (without checking), that's quite strong smelling.

I didn't realise they were made with discarded wax etc. learn something new every day!

Yankee Candles are vile. Cannot understand the fuss people make about them.

TK Maxx sell gorgeous candles at knock down prices.

I stopped using the candles when I realised how dirty they were making the room decor.

Market forces, Squoosh... I don't like the jumble sale that is TKMaxx, can never find anything.

Chipsandpeas... if you like Clean Cotton/Baby Powder, you could try 'Soft Blanket' too, it's got amber tones in so a little warmer but really clean-smelling.

Mummytotwo... I've tried that one, very nice although I'm not really a 'food' smell person. I do like 'Warm Spice' very much though, that's a really homely baking smell.

How does it make the room dirty ?

I think Sallyingforth means from the smoke that comes from wicks that aren't maintained/tended. Also, some of the soy-based or cheaper candles can make sooty marks on ceilings. I've never experienced that with Yankees, or with Diptyque - but have with Glade (never again).

I am a Yankee Candle lover. However I have bought some of the cheaper Simply Home Range ones in Asda and B & Q and hated all of them.

I got a candle in TK Maxx which is a Wax Lyrical Royal Horticultural Society one - it is Vanilla and Cinnamon. It is gorgeous, and I have noticed that Boots have a range of these in different scents. Not any cheaper than YC but definitely worth trying.

I am a yankee candle addict.

I have a few of the Asda Simply home ones and dont think I will bother with them again. They are OK but not as good scent wise as the proper Yankees.

I have just discovered a Yankee Candle Outlet near where I live. Ha ha ha. I am so addicted. My home is slowly being taken over by Yankee Candles.

This weeks purchase is one of the new(ish) Yankee Pillar candles. Its Honey and Spice and it is devine.

I am still also burning my Balsam and Cedar I bought for Xmas. I loved it too much to pack it away with the Xmas decs. I highly recommend it if you are feeling a little bunged up with a cold. I am sure it helps.

Next on my list is the black coconut to try and the Lavender Lemon - am waiting for the spring and summer for those though as they are more summery smells in my mind.

I think they're a rip off and smell no nicer than some of the Glade ones that are half the price. I LOVE the Xmassy Glade one. Orange and spice or something. And I'm well fussy about smells.

Arf at the invading Yankee Candles though SadFreak . You'll wake up one morning and they will creepily have climbed the stairs, all by themselves… Grin

Ah, I take it all back what I said about Yankee Candles then. Now I wants me that bunny one. They have lots at b and q but unfortunately Dh has taken the car to work with him today. Just as well as he'd probably have come home to the house looking like the Like a Prayer video (and smelling GREAT)!
