We had a supermarket delivery. We were given a bottle of vodka. We didnt order it. My dh said ' ssh dont mention it.'

Now I am worried delivery man will get in trouble! Hes so friendly.

if dh wasnt there I would have given it back because we didn't pay for it. I feel bad now.

So take it back to store, say you didn't realise your DH had not ordered it.

Call the customer service line? Chances are they'll let you keep it anyway. Win-win.

I might if he doesn't drink it (was secretly hoping to be told it didn't matter)

I once got 6 packs of the Finest sausages I ordered. I ordered 1 pack and only paid for one. I froze the rest and there were never any repercussions. Don't worry about it and go have a vodka and coke.

I was given a packet of peas and sanitary towels I didn't order yesterday, I would have preferred the vodka! I don't think they can ask for it back, most people wouldn't realise until the delivery man had left anyway. I'm certainly not driving to the shops to return my peas and pads so I don't think you should return the vodka..

I think you should ring and tell them , because either they will not be believing the customer who claims its missing when they paid for it, or they will be suspecting their driver of nicking it. CAn't you just imagine both those threads on here ? An outraged customer who is being called a liar? A worried wife whose innocent hubby might lose his job?

They will say keep it anyway, that is what has happened every time we have had a bag of someone elses stuff dropped off with ours, never been asked to take it back to store. never been asked to wait in while driver collects it.

Bottle of vodka! Envy... I got a pack of four replacement heads for a Braun electric toothbrush in my last Amazon order (no, I don't have a brush).

See, I'd then start worrying about whether the driver or order-packer would get into bother for making a mistake... Confused

I've just checked here CAB Advice on unsolicited goods and my first thought was right, strictly speaking you can keep it as long as you ring and ask them to pick it up, if they do, bad luck, if they don't Na zdorovie.

I was once delivered some very posh loo roll and rang customer services, they graciously let me keep it. I would have preferred Vodka. Grin

I got a bag of extra bakery stuff once, bread and muffins. Rang them to tell them, they said "keep it".

I therefore assumed that the same would apply to the bottle of gin they accidentally delivered.

I once had an extra bag of peas and didn't bother phoning. I assume someone picked up two bags rather than one when packing the bags.

But something expensive like a bottle of vodka which hadn't been ordered at all I would definitely have told them like you did OP. It's just the sort of thing that raises suspicions of theft if it goes missing.

Can you not enjoy the vodka, but then replace it if they ever ask about it?

curiousuze · 27/01/2014 19:33

Oooh, this is a lot less saucier than I thought it would be when I clicked on it!

Let the supermarket know but I'd imagine they'll let you keep it. Tesco were the worst for this, I used to get loads of unordered stuff.

I got six bottles of cod liver oil tablets once! I said to the tesco driver I didn't order them, and he said keep them, so I did!

That's what I meant ashtray - I'd end up writhing with indecision because I wouldn't want the packer or the driver to get into trouble.

And whatever you did they might get into trouble -

Customer who doesn't get item complains. Trouble.

Customer who gets extra item tells shop. Trouble.
