To start diet tomorrow?

So I have a weeks worth of Cambridge diet. Was planning on starting on 2nd, but thinking of starting tomorrow. Meaning I have a week of dh being home to help me stick to it.

But.. He brought me a lot of chocolate for Xmas. I really can't face eatting it.

What should I do? Start tomorrow now I feel ready to start! Or wait until next week?

So if you have managed to keep it off you are actually capable of changing your eating habits then or it would have gone back on.

Many people who follow diets, especially fad ones quickly put weight back on when they stop following that plan for whatever reason. To lose weight and keep it off takes much more than just a diet.

No, I don't think I am capable of changing my eating habits actually ... I have always been highly prone to binge eating. Meal replacements mean that I can maintain a healthy weight, at least, which is something.

I'm sure people will insist I just haven't tried hard enough - I have! I really, really have tried not to binge but I always do. It's something I've learned to adapt my lifestyle to, I suppose.

Anyway, Cambridge and their equivalents are no more fads than, say, SW or weight watchers - plenty of people return to those having gained the weight they lost!

I feel the same about slimming world and weight watchers. Weight watchers in particular seem very keen to try to sell their products which are actually far from healthy.

The diet companies rely on people losing weight, then failing and giving them more money to lose what they have lost once again.

throw away the cambridge diet, waste of time and money as teaches nothing. You can't be on disgusting shakes for life. Eat properly and move around.

two squares of chocolate a night are a pleasant 40 calorie treat.

Ha, you obviously all don't need to lose 13 stone.

I dance for 6 hours a week, I don't eat that much and cook healthy, yet can't shift a pound.

If that is the case you need to seek proper medical help. I know people who have lost more than that through a proper lifestyle change - it is more than possible.

It isn't. I have been dieting since I was 6 yesrs old.

I have tried everything. I will have to have surgery is the next option. Even the doctor said that.

Yes, mummy - I hope you heard that! Your diet isn't because you want to be healthy and wear nice clothes, it's because you need to Learn a Lesson; you need to be Taught Self Control.

I am being facetious here but losing weight is a personal thing and we will all do it differently. I greatly admire people who can have one square of chocolate but I cannot, I would hoover up the lot before you could say 'Evans size 26!'

Meal replacements work for me, especially as I have a mild but nonetheless life impacting condition which severely reduces my capacity to exercise. As such, weight gain can be rapid when I binge.

I binge too. And in the past I have binged and made myself sick.

I was brought up to eat everything on my plate. And I can't help myself sad

Anyway, I certainly didn't intend to get into a row here. God, if you are still reading, there was absolutely no aggressiveness, passive or otherwise, in my post - it was a humorous attempt at pointing out things are not simple or straightforward.

I am pissed off actually that you see fit to inform me of my intentions.

I am genuinely pleased for those who have no issues with weight or with food, or those who have had them and have overcome them: I unfortunately am not in that category, despite not being overweight, staying that way is a constant struggle. I greatly sympathise with those struggling with their weight as it is crap. But just as 'eat more, sit down less' doesn't work for anorexics, you know the reverse doesn't work for the other extremes either and I wish to god people would stop acting as if it does, as if being overweight isn't just that but you're stupid and are the equivalent of a naughty schoolgirl.

Throw the Cambridge diet in the bin and give the chocolates to the postie.
Exercise and drink loads you will see the weight go down.

If you're posting I'd say you're ready. Each time Ive done it (pre pregnancies as I couldn't convieve) or after to drop some pounds, it's worked like a charm. Mostly because of rapid weight loss in the early weeks that is like motivation on a stick x

That's what I need. If I can't see it, I can't stick to it. I really can't do the 2lb here 1lb loss there.

I have 130lb to lose first. Would take me years if I lost 2lb a week.

Diets are a 'quick fix' solution I'm afraid that hardly ever work long term...but I'm guessing you know that OP if you've been dieting since you were six.

Start it as soon as you're ready but make sure you get the chocolates out of the house, if you think you're going to cave in and eat them.

Will you manage to stick to it on NYE?

Yeah. I have the motivation to do it this time.

The diets iv been doing since I was 6 are even healthy eatting! Tablets from doctors, seeings eatting women, even therapy.

130lbs at 2lbs a week wouldn't take years - it would take a year and about 3 months!
Fast weight loss is bad weight loss on the whole - it won't stay off.

I'm glad you're truly motivated OP

But (in the nicest possible way) re-read your OP and then ask yourself why you wrote it if indeed you are truly motivated?

I get that you may have started it for support (and I'm sure you'll get plenty) but if you've lost 8st and then gained 9st in the past, and you've tried therapy, tablets etc....are you sure starting at the worst possible time of year (ie the Christmas period) is going to help with any lack of willpower you may have?

I'm wording this badly because the last thing I want to do is offend or demotivate you...but are you sure there's not a tiny part in your mind that thinks "Oh well if I fail this time, I can blame the fact it's Christmas week"?

Genuine question. I'm just wondering if you might be better to start the day after New Year's Day? thanks

Start now. I said from jan 1 I was going veggie. Mostly. Only eating meat once a week. After yesterday's turkey fest I couldn't even face the traditional Boxing Day bacon breakfast. Last night at 1030 I was picking at leftover turkey and stuffing. Bad. Bad. Bad. But oh so good. We are home now (Christmas Day at parents) so no leftovers here. Just veg. Lovely leafy green veg.

Start as you mean to go on. Can you just put the chocolate away? Or just have a small square a day? (Not sure what Cambridge diet entails...). Or failing that eat the lot now together with all junk food in house. And then start.

I put the weight on from being pregnant and having pnd after my mum died.

Iv decided to start now, as I'm sick of worrying about my health sad

Good luck OP, whatever you decide. It's not easy regardless of how you do it. But you can do it.

But you didn't put on 130 lbs in a couple of months so why would you realistically expect to lose it as quickly.
Surely even Cambridge weight loss slows down after the first couple of months???

As it's been said here, diets do not work long term it's not as simple as eat less, move more. It's not about willpower. Diets are all about hating our bodies, depriving and punishing them, which is not a state anyone can live in for long. 99% of people who lose weight that way regain it (and often more), so how can that have 'worked'? confused. I'd suggest that for the 1% a more fundamental change has happened in their life, usually on an emotional level (change in relationship, career, financial situation, having kids, moving). A different approach is needed and it's to do with not just what you eat but when and also what is happening in other areas of life.

Two - you mention having had therapy, was that wrt diet or bereavement?
