Is it that my Mother just annoying me? or is it bad manners to bring out ones hair-brush and give it a good going over...whipping it in to a fluffy ball-no matter where you are?

The cafe,

The street?

The bus?

This is a lady who prides herself on good manners. When she does this though, she seems to have no respect for those sitting behind/around her?

I am positive she would have told me not to do it when I was younger confused

I think it should be done in the powder -room wink

YANBU. You brush your hair, apply makeup etc. at home or in the ladies.

I read that as "Brushing hair in pubic places?"

KerwhizzedMyself Thu 14-Nov-13 15:08:12

Argh I can't bear it. Especially when you are on the bus and the person sat in front of you starts doing it. Moulting hair floating everywhere <vomit>

Frettchen Thu 14-Nov-13 15:09:28

I've done it in public... Well, on the way from my front door to my car (a bit of a trek) - if I'm running late it makes more sense to do it on the move.

Also, if I'd been doing something to mess my hair up (i.e. soft play with my niece & nephew) then I'd probably go ahead and run a brush through it rather than disappearing into a toilet to do it.

Maybe I've just got terrible manners...

Food prep or consumption areas is yucky to me, rest I wouldn't mind in the least.

AnyFuckersfrogslegs35 Thu 14-Nov-13 16:46:48

I've done it at work - in the toilet and at my desk. Also done it on buses but anywhere there's food I don't.

SourSweets Thu 14-Nov-13 16:49:43

Bad manners fo sho.

KareninsGirl Thu 14-Nov-13 16:56:00

I brush my hair all the time. I am clearly very ill-mannered smile

Bad manners in a cafe or around others. Outside on your own in a field, fine.

I always think 'bathroom activity' about anything that attends to personal care.

I don't eat in the street either. (Apart from ice cream)

rwepi Thu 14-Nov-13 17:05:10

Yep very bad manners afaic

BeautifulBlondePineapple Thu 14-Nov-13 17:27:38

Shouldn't be done in public IMHO.

There is a woman at my work who puts her hand up her top and sprays deoderant on her actual armpits. At her desk. Every morning!!! Probably better than her smelling, but I have no idea why she can't do this at home or in the ladies loos.

Chivetalking Thu 14-Nov-13 17:32:55

Cafe?? shock

V. bad manners near others.

I have no wish to be showered with a stranger's stray dandruff particles or loose hairs. Can't see anyone else welcoming it either.

ShatnersBassoon Thu 14-Nov-13 17:33:56

A woman sitting on the seat in front of me on the bus brushed her very thick, very tangled hair. Dandruff and loose hair all over me. Bad manners.

fluffyraggies Thu 14-Nov-13 17:51:41

I was taught it was bad manners. I think. I can't remember being taught it mind you.

I've always been a bit coy about putting on lipstick just any old where. Only now i'm older i give less of a damn, and will whip out the lippy and put it on when ever.

SirChenjin Thu 14-Nov-13 17:57:28

No, it's bad manners (and completely rank). It is just plain antisocial to spray bits of old scalp skin and hair over people in your immediate vicinity. Yuk yuk yuk.

Famzilla Thu 14-Nov-13 18:07:32

I had never heard of this being an issue before. Then again, I have long thick curls so it only gets brushed during it's once weekly wash

Feminine Thu 14-Nov-13 18:22:43

It annoys me as she would have been horrified if I had done it ( at one time)

Very odd that she has taken it up at 71! grin

Thanks for your replies, at least I'm not the only one.

I think I'm the most fussy in that case as I can't stand women brushing their hair in the ladies loos at work, it gets right on my wick. They spend up to 5 minutes in front of the mirror giving it a good brush...dropping hairs & dead skin into the basin then walk out leaving all the mess behind....eurghhh...makes my stomach turn.
I would mind less if they had attractive hair in anyway.
Dont get me wrong, I don't mind someone repairing their do\replacing pins etc...it's the thorough brushing through with the cascading detritus that grates on my nerves...makes me want to scream...'stop wasting time & go back to your bloody desk'....and breathe...

chandellina Thu 14-Nov-13 19:23:04

I'm totally an offender, I brush at my desk, in the lift, on the street but try not to be seen and literally just run the brush through once for a quick tidy. IMO it's nowhere near as bad as colleagues who cut their nails. For real.

dementedma Thu 14-Nov-13 20:26:08

Short hair here and don't even own a hairbrush, let alone straighteners, hairdryers etc.

Gruntfuttock Thu 14-Nov-13 20:48:17

I'm a bit baffled by this TBH. I've never brushed my hair in a public place, because it has never been necessary so it wouldn't even cross my mind. confused

Thants Thu 14-Nov-13 21:06:05

I brush my hair at work and on the bus but wouldn't in a food place. I do my makeup on the bus too.

SirChenjin Thu 14-Nov-13 21:10:11

Yuk. Don't do it. Have some respect for the people around you.

Thants Thu 14-Nov-13 21:40:37

I don't think it disrespectful. It does not bother me if other people do it.
