YADNBU. I went to the Christmas lights switch on at Meadowhall on Wednesday because DD wanted to see The Vamps. Some of the bands were singing Christmas songs and DD turned to me and said "It's not Christmas yet".

I think it devalues Christmas and makes it feel less special when it is spread over several weeks.

The you get threads on here from people who can't wait to put their Christmas tree up before December even starts. Why FGS?

If I put my tree up that early I would be wanting it down by Christmas day. I can't stand the clutter. We put the tree up the week before Christmas and it comes down before the 12th day because I am sick of the sight of it.

Yes you ate being unreasonable.

I had this discussion with my hubby yesterday, both of us hate the early adverts but I'm more pragmatic about it.

Most families DO NOT wait until the last pay packet before Christmas to buy in the gifts and food. Most families would start buying BEFORE the last pay packet so business would be mad not to advertise.

I don't like the early adverts and the early shop displays but it makes sense for businesses to do it no matter how fed up we get about it.

Have just seen the coca-cola one for the first time this year. It prompted to take a look at their website to see about their truck tour - apparently they are visiting 'kindness hotspots' in Britain...!?!

If they waited till December I would have finished my gift shopping so they would have missed their opportunity to influence me. Bring on the Xmas ads, I got popcorn in tonight especially

The M&S one is lovely and the Aldi ad is funny Smile. YABU kind of, I really enjoy the run up to Christmas and have my festive iTunes playlist standing ready for doing up the decorations on the first of December. However it makes the day itself a bit of an anti climax I think, but that's probably just me, I enjoy the run up more than the day!

Yanbu. It absolutely devalues Christmas.

YANBU. Advent is preparation for Christmas and starts on 1st December.

Christmas itself begins on 24th December, hence the 12 days of Christmas from then until 12th night.

So Ant and Dec, no it isn't Christmas at the moment!

YANBU. Keep Christmas in December! I know someone who put her tree up last night as she thinks that now Halloween and Guy Fawkes night have finished it's Christmas.

What PippaRivers said.

People are already Christmas shopping. Also, a lot of the adverts feature the Christmas party dresses and a lot of companies have their parties on 1st or early December. No use waiting until then to advertise.

Hey hey hey! Don't be blaming the lovely Ant and Dec!!

I could see a lot of businesses failing and losing their custom to others if they didn't start advertising til December.

I can only hope that the keep Christmas for December advocates work for businesses who aren't as shortsighted otherwise they'll be out of work when the business fails.

Im sure most of us are intelligent to start our Christmas shopping and/or choose a party dress without the John Lewis ads etc.
One year I started in January!

A couple of years ago I went into my local Co-op, it was August, the hottest day of the year, everyone was in summer clothes. They were playing Christmas songs on the store radio. I asked to see the manager to complain, he wasn't in. I was so incensed by the time I got home I fired off an email to the Company Chairman. I had a very apologetic reply and a promise it would never happen again.

He could've chucked a few vouchers in as well, but no such luck Sad

Sorry but I have already eaten a box of mince pies and watched Elf today and I enjoyed it. Only 45 sleeps to go.

I can see why businesses feel the need to do it but I hate it. By the time December comes I am sick of all things Christmassy! In town today there were several shops playing Christmas music and the staff in Costa coffee were dressed as Santa and elves - it's November 9th ffs!

We have a retail business and the run up to Christmas is our busiest time by far. We would go bust if we didn't advertise until December. A lot of our customers start their Christmas shopping in September.
