will be released after serving just 4 years in prison for the murder of baby P shes still young enough to go on to have other children, and its a disgrace that what baby P suffered is thought to only carry 4 years punishment

I didn't know about this, but I really hope that she is not allowed to have any more babies.

What do you think should happen to her?

You can't forcible sterilise someone but I would be shocked if any more babies she has in the future were not taken into care at birth.

sterilisation?

Surely if she's served her sentence then she's served her sentence?

What do you expect to happen?

We don't have forced sterilisation (or abortion) in this country just yet. So the question of someone being 'allowed' to have babies doesn't arise. God knows, if there were a 'fitness to parent' test, a lot of those baying for Tracey Connolly's blood would fail, that's for certain sure.

First of all, she has been in prison for 6 years
Secondly, she wasn't convicted of murder
What do you think they should have done? Apart from have you on the parole board, of course...

Yanbu. That poor baby had lost the tips of many of his fingers and his hands were plastered to hide from the authorities. Four years no punishment. I would prefer she died in jail. Do we really want someone capable of such cruelty to be walking the streets?

They can't stop her having babies, I imagine if she does have any more SS would take the baby from her right away.

I can't believe that she is getting out after 4 years. That is a shockingly small amount of time. However I don't think it was murder she was convicted of, I think it was allowing his death (I could be wrong though, can't check right now as I am on my phone) so I suppose their hands are tied with how long they can keep her in for.

Her face is so well known now that she is going to be in serious danger when she is released, I would think she will be given a new identity.

I'm torn: with my sensible head on, she has already been turned down for parole once, and so mst have some more work / met more requirements to get parole this time. She will also be recalled at any time if she breaches her parole conditions, as happened to one of her co-accused.

As a parent who looked down at my 18 month old blond haired boy, just after her trial, I'd like to see her rot. But that won't undo her son's suffering, or bring him back, and I have no doubt that she's either been segregated in jail or had a rough time of it.

They've just said on Sky that the little lad had 60 visits from police, SW and other health professionals in 8 months and nobody spotted anything amiss Angry

Sad

I thought the sentence was far too short, but that's what it was. And now it has been served, and the parole board is satisfied, she must be released and make what she will of the next stage in her life.

Well, she was jailed "indefinitely" with a recommendation to serve 5 years. Without wishing to come over all Daily Mail, 4 years does not really seem to tally with "indefinitely". What was the point of that sentence? To make the public think justice had been done...with a literal 'get out of jail' card when things appeared to have quietened down a bit??

Am really stumped by this outcome.

Report
viperslast · 08/10/2013 17:07

Um I can't see why you would be disgusted now, this was always what was going to happen. The sentence was passed she served time and came up for parole just like every other prisoner?

The length of time served was never going to take her past child bearing age so I don't get your point really. If you were saying this when sentence was passed then I could get it but isn't it a bit late to bleat now?

Report
Bowlersarm · 08/10/2013 17:08

Does anyone know how it works? Does 'indefinitely' with a minimum recommendation stated in years, normally mean less if terms of parole are fulfilled?

Is this unusual?

Report
mrsjay · 08/10/2013 17:08

I am stumped too but I guess people are entitled to up to the parole board Imnot really sure how it all works

Report
difficultpickle · 08/10/2013 17:08

If she has been in prison for 6 years why are all the news reports I've listened to today say 4 years. I don't understand how she is being scheduled for release when she hasn't served the minimum sentence ordered. I assume she will get a new identity etc.
