It's so so so staged and set up.
The first auditions (the ones where you don't see judges, about 4 auditions before you even see the tv judges) is just pot luck, you get split in groups and put in front of producers who only have a small numbers of 'yes' cards to give out.
Then there's 3 or 4 more auditions before the televised auditions, so that means the bad auditionees who everyone loves to laugh at have been told 5 separate times that they're good enough to go through, only to be laughed at by millions....
The judges have already picked out who they want on the live shows way before the boot camp auditions.

Well the contestants know how the show works, they are told what will happen and know what to expect...they have the option of just walking away..... And even those rejected have agents and ( on tv earlier) have recording agencies interested already

I do it on most things, I only watch the dance and scores on strictly, I don't care what the judges say lol!

Imnotwhoyouthinkiam - i do that too. Cant be bothered listening to all the sob stories.

bullying = cruel= nasty.

however each to their own and it's just words really.

still nasty.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam Sun 29-Sep-13 23:01:16

Ah, thanks! I should watch it all, instead of fast forwarding all but the actual singing!

NicknameIncomplete Sun 29-Sep-13 22:52:48

They will be going to judges houses to wittle it down from 6 to 3.

I dont think that it was bullying because not once were they told that once they sat on the seat their place was safe quite the opposite. They knew that they may be swapped for someone else.

I wouldnt call it a family show anymore as it starts quite late especially on a sunday. For younger children anyway.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam Sun 29-Sep-13 22:30:28

It's not bullying imo, but it is cruel sad

And why are they still going to judges houses? I thought they'd picked their final 6 confused or do they not have that many in the live shows?

GeeTeeEff Sun 29-Sep-13 22:17:55

Bullying? Sorry I don't think so.

The contestants all know what they're in for. Harsh? Gutting? Shattered dreams? Yes.

Bullying? No way.

CiderBomb Sun 29-Sep-13 22:11:13

Watch Strictly instead, it's far nicer.

Writerwannabe83 Sun 29-Sep-13 21:51:12

It isn't bullying at all!!!

cardibach Sun 29-Sep-13 21:50:10

I don't think it is bullying either. Bullying is sustained abuse, not this. It is, however, unnecessarily complicated and cruel.
I have not heard anyone I like this year yet, though, so in combination with the stupid system of judging I may not watch it again.

ILetHimKeep20Quid Sun 29-Sep-13 21:46:44

It's not bullying. It's a bit shabby but there's no bullying.

I dont know whats happening but I just turned to plus 1 to check it out and have to say..is Nicole a Cheryl clone now?

The hair is gorgeous but too Cheryl like.

HeySoulSister Sun 29-Sep-13 21:01:34

At school? What do you mean?

On X factor they know if they get a seat they can lose it... They know there's a chance they will be going home just like they know they can stay....how on earth is that 'bullying'??

thebody Sun 29-Sep-13 20:59:44

kids go to school daily 'knowing the score' and get bullied! don't get your point?

HeySoulSister Sun 29-Sep-13 20:51:43

It's not! They know the score, know how it works and know what to expect. How on earth is that bullying?

thebody Sun 29-Sep-13 20:50:47

well to me a type of bullying can be to let a person believe they have reached a level, and tell them they have ANC congratulate them only to then suddenly tell them actually you haven't.

I call that nasty and bullying.

IamSlave Sun 29-Sep-13 20:44:45

Yes its turned really vile and what happens to the winners?

Its pointless cheap and nasty,

The only thing I can say in its defence is that it has been on long enough now for people to know they will get spoken to dreadfully if they are not good enough.

HeySoulSister Sun 29-Sep-13 20:42:11

How is it bullying?

The word 'bullying' is a buzzword on MN this week, and it's used too easily and losing its real meaning IMO!

MalcolmTuckersMistress Sun 29-Sep-13 19:46:53

Xfactor is the epitome of cunt-culture.

thebody Sun 29-Sep-13 19:38:11

no not pearl clutchy, or yes maybe I am if that means I don't enjoy ritual humiliation and bullying then glad to pearl clutch.

ILetHimKeep20Quid Sun 29-Sep-13 19:19:58

Flobber I'm sorry but don't prompt a work of fiction as fact! Chart Throb is a great book, written some time ago now, in typical Ben Elton style, it's not factual and doesn't give you an insight! It's his style, just like the one about congestion, or the big brother parody or the Hollywood one. Entertaining but fictional.

Never mind cruel, it's just crap this year. Last night's episode was put together really strangely - they were doing sing-offs, then suddenly the chair thing, then halfway through the overs chair thing it stopped.

It's obviously scripted, they know who they are going to put through before the chair thing. I spotted the girl in sparkly frock would get sent home as we had never seen her before.

Anyway, I have watched it from the beginning. Although I'm not making them any money as I record it to watch later (and skip adverts) and have never phoned up during a live show.

But I'm not watching it any more, I have decided it's taking over too much of my evening. Saturday and Sunday, and last night's went on for bloody ever.
