AIBU?

to want to buy a pair of trousers that aren't skinny jeans

Went to day to buy a few new things for autumn and am desperately in need of trousers.

I am not big - size 12 bottom, size 10 top, so probably smaller than average. Every single "trouser" Hmm was 'skinny'. I hate skinny jeans because they feel so restrictive around your calves/take ages to pull on and I can't believe that many people actually like them

so why is it the only choice available at the moment??

I know exactly what you mean. What's happened to the 'normal' fit trousers or jeans?! I don't mind slim fit but I don't want super-skinny fit. I just don't find them comfortable. I know other people do. No idea why though.

YANBU! I like boot cut jeans with a high enough waist that I'm not hoiking them every 5 minutes and/or paranoid about my underwear showing...

I don't care how outmoded they are

You want BHS and M&S then.

Gap trouses are good

And their really straight jeans, they are not skinny but very straight and more flattering if legs are on the big side

Oh, thanks. GAP sounds a good idea. I expected the like from New Look etc, but was dismayed to find Next full of the dreaded skinnies ... and hardly any skirts. They seem to be 'out' this season. And I do like a really long skirt for the winter

I am struggling to find trousers for DS1. He is nearly 15 and has ASD, he hates tight or restrictive clothes. Everything for men (he's an early developer and too big for teen clothes) seems to be either skinny or designed for older men and not suitable for a young lad who while not high fashion wants to be a bit trendy.Tracky bottoms are fine but he needs casual trousers as well or jeans. Very difficult to find. Matalan was the best place, I hear they are good for ladies jeans/trousers too.

I'm beginning to think I need a change from my M&S per una 'roma' bootcuts... but I have 'sturdy' legs - skinnies look terrible, if they even go on. We've got a Gap outlet now, will have to try their straights.

Dr my dh has the same complaint about trousers at the moment - either skinny or very old man. now skinny would not suit him at all and he is only mid 30s, who in their mid 30s wants to wear grandad pants other than hipsters

Don't get me started..

I have big calves so the damned things don't go on, and if they do, I look absolutely dreadful and end up with cramps after a few hours from the restricted circulation.

And the low rise ones as well - constantly pulling them up as has been mentioned, and can't bend over and/or need to make sure my top is long.

But there's hardly and nice high rise bootcut ones anywhere!

And I have short legs just to add to the complication.

Currently trying to find maternity jeans as am 13 weeks. Nearly all of those are bloody skinny and regular/long legged. Finally found some in Mamas and Papas, not a shop I have ever been in when pregnant (fourth DC) but the only one that seemed to sell short bootcut jeans.

Try boyfriend or the new boot cut style jeans - so much more flattering imo.

There are plenty around this year - I've seen them in M &S, Next, Gap, DP etc. I'm hoping skinnies are on the way out personally Smile

Dr - my DS is similar. We're going to try the men's chinos from Next this Autumn - lots of colours, loose/straight/skinny fit, and only £20. They deliver next day to store for 50p and do free returns via store.

I hate the change in seasons and the necessary teenage boy clothes shopping!

I am living in these atm, the total opposite of a skinny jean Grin

They are warm, unbelievably comfortable and not what everyone else is wearing, which I like, I think I have finally found my trouser.

YANBU! I'm similar in size and find it impossible! However, I have found that Asda's 'skinnies' are not so skinny and actually very comfortable and unrestrictive, and some of primarks are okay too.

I bought some boot cut jeans from Sainsburys. They have various other styles too, might be worth a look?

Sorry op I love skinny jeans and am glad they have them , I am a size 8 so the other styles don't really suit my shape.

But I have seen plenty other non skinny Jean types. Have you tried MS, gap, HM, Benetton, I always am searching for the skinny jeans but happen to find the other types.

I was thinking this exact thing this morning.

Im 10/12 on the bottom and 10 on top and I am not a fan of skinny anything.

I particularly loath 'jeggings'.

Despite this, all I own is skinny and Im currently wearing a pair of jeggings.

I had no choice, I had to give in in the end it seemed to be all thats on bloody offer.

They dont look bad but they feel crap. Im constantly yanking them up, pulling up the leg and unlike a normal pair of jeans, you have to wash them after every wash because they go baggy.

It doesnt matter if you spen £50 of £10 on them, they ALL droop and ALL go baggy.

Fucking things.

I feel your pain! I an short and stubby of leg and HATE skinnies and they are absolutely everywhere! I want high waisted slim leg and they are so hard to find. I know they do them in Next but have bought from there before and they are not of good quality, didnt keep their shape and stretched and wore out quickly :(

Im off to H&M over the weekend as I have heard a few people say there is some good ones there! I dont think I have a GAP near me and all M&S Ive seen dont look good. I dont want boyfriend jeans as they all seem to be ripped/overly worn as the 'look'.. I want smart looking jeans!

Oops that was quite a long rant, guess Im more upset about this than I thought! Blush

DrCoconut - Ted Baker have lots of chino type trousers at the moment, didn't look ridiculously tight or at all old-mannish (though realise that's a bit high-end budget if your DS is 15 and presumably still growing?).

I was eyeing up some men's 501s yesterday. I used to wear them back in the day and they remain my favourite ever jeans. Unfotunately I'm not sure how they'll look on me now 2 kids and 3 stone later.
