AIBU to desperately ask for your opinion about a trunki

We fly tomorrow morning, have a trunki as a present, and a two year old. I don't know whether to take it or not as it seems like if they can't propel themselves along and we are taking the pushchair it might just get in the way.

total first world problem I know, and also first post I have started on this forum.

Should I take it on the off chance they will play with it or am I being stupid for taking something we might not use in a confined place.

Or am I being unreasonable for even asking this question when there are so many more important things in the world!

I thought they were to sit on rather than actually move along on.....I wouldn't bother with a pushchair too. Not if you can fit his stuff in your case.

they are to sit on and pull them along which I won't use but they can also kind of sit and scoot along. Your answer has just made me realise how much I wanted someone else to say I shouldn't bother. My husband has said if I mention it one more Time I have to take it as my carry on bag

Trunkis are great. At 2 he might not scoot along yet but they are really sturdy and hold loads. Both mine have one and I've packed them for a week away in them.

Natasha if I sit him on it and try and pull him along he might sit for a second but I think he would prefer to push his own pram x

I've just been looking at these online for dd for a holiday we have booked. I think they can push themselves along or you can pull them along? It looked fun to me Smile

My four-year-old loves his trunki. I suspect by next year he will be embarrassed by it like his older brothers were by their frog and ladybird umbrellas.

It is handy, can go as hand-luggage or in the hold and it is kind of nice for them to have 'ownershiip' of their own stuff. He has never really ridden on it though.

I would never have bought one myself but he is very happy with it.

DD's Trunki is languishing in a cupboard. Holds less than a comparable rolling luggage, awkward shape, DD couldn't pull it easily and when she gave up a couldn't hold her, my carry on and her.

I got her a Buzz Lightyear rolling one instead. Like this It fits on mine so I can roll them both along but she pulled it for ages.

BTW DD has flowen 18 flights in her life so I know what of I speak.

I think they are brilliant but the logistics of that plus pram aren't attractive. Shall I just get over myself and take it?

Does she absolutely need the pram? They are a PITA as well. I didn't bother taking ours for DD, who was 2.5yo last trip.

mrs to, we haven't flown with kid. Eleven hot flight. We have a carry on each and kid stuff all in suitcases. Changing bag holds all essentials for flight so trunki would just be for sticker books and packs of food and an aquadoodle during the flight. No seat booked so kid could sit on it on the floor maybe on the plane. I am in your hands. We will have carry on each plus pushchair and then kid with trunki.

What should we do?

My DD (now 6) adores hers. We have used it on all holidays since she was 2. At 2 I would definitely also take a buggy. Trunki goes over your shoulder easily when she is in buggy and you pull her along on it when she wants to play when you are hanging around (for ages) at airports. All her toys for the holiday go in trunki.

yes to pram. It's huge and bulky but a godsend to trap kiddo in for if we want to walk a long way. Is only two but weighs almost three stone and height of a four year old so pram is deffo necessary as carrying is a no go

We had one, and it was a pain. It was heavy to pull with him sitting on it, it was banging into people when he pulled it, and you can't open it easily in a confined space ie a plane. I'd leave it at home.

Sounds like you might need it for entertainment. Could you get the toys and stuff in your carry on. With a pram you don't need the Trunki. I don't think the flight attendants will let DC play on the floor with it. It would be in the way and dangerous.

If you haven't got a hand luggage bag accounted for his spot, then go for it.

For me though, they are far smaller than the maximum hand luggage size and I like to squeeze as much in as possible, so pointless. DS has pulled his own pull-along one from about 4, he's always been so excited to do it that the novelty has amazingly not worn off apart from once when we were in a stationary Ryanair queue anyway.

The pushchair is usually counted separately. If he won't ride on it then he could walk and the trunki in the buggy? Or not sure how small they actually are - could it fit in the luggage space on the buggy or balance on the hood? You can always get a luggage trolley at the airport remember - this is how we managed 2x rolling large suitcases, 2x rolling hand luggage, 1x backpack and car seat with only 2 adults and 1 child - we just didn't have enough hands!

Ah I see not practical on flight - what about getting him a backpack for his hand luggage instead? Something with a character on?

So, how I now do it with 2yo DD who is the size of a 4yo as well... My very posh and expensive so very good cabin luggage is rollable. She uses her Buzz rolling luggage except when she is grumpy or asleep. At that point she is on me in the Ergo carrier and I wheel my luggage with hers on top (they fit neatly) and have a hand free for customs and immigration.

I stow or don't bring the pram. The pram is given to the door of the plane in some airports and given back at baggage claim at some others so pretty useless.

I travel a lot with her alone so I need to be super-efficient. With two of you, there is more leeway.

Forget the trunki, take drugs.
