AIBU?

Girls' and boys' yogurts from Muller - AIBU to be a bit WTF??

Here they are - the product you never knew you needed. I sort of understand how toys have become sexually stereotyped but food products. Really? It's utterly ridiculous. Isn't it? Or should I only be feeding my daughter yogurts suitable for a girl? All these years she has been making do with unisex yogurt. I feel I have let her down.

According to Muller, boys like monkeys, space, pirates and cars, and girls like flowers, popstars, superstars and fashion - and it's only right that these interests are reflected in the dairy products they consume. My DD likes climbing trees, I am confused about which yogurt I should choose.

Wow, how totally uneccessary!

Which genius came up with such a ridiculous idea?! I mean, why would you have boys yoghurts and girls yoghurts?!

Levantine · 05/09/2013 20:54

What a load of total bollocks

cathpip · 05/09/2013 20:54

Well my dd will only eat the petit filous with the superhero girl on it, if I dare give her the superhero boy petit filous she tells me its her brothers, she's 2.5...... I give over!

JerseySpud · 05/09/2013 20:55

Nope....just can't get excited about it. If you don't like it buy a different type of yoghurt.

attheendoftheday · 05/09/2013 20:55

Shock

That is beyond stupid.

KirjavaTheCat · 05/09/2013 20:56

Is this for real? Shock

VisualCharades · 05/09/2013 20:56

wot a load of arse yanbu

attheendoftheday · 05/09/2013 20:56

The product, obviously. I'm not commenting on Jersey's post!

Effjay · 05/09/2013 20:57

Daft, I agree. But in the mind of a child, things like that seem to be important. My DD and DS love sharing out the boy and girl Frubes! Go with it and let her choose ( and enjoy it if she rebels and picks the boy versions!!)

littlemisswise · 05/09/2013 20:58

I saw them on the TV and thought WTAF!

When mine were little you could buy Teletubby custard but at least it wasn't bloody sexist crap!

DorisIsWaiting · 05/09/2013 21:00

What a complete load of bollocks. It's just ridiculous.

Tee2072 · 05/09/2013 21:00

So. Stupid.

gordyslovesheep · 05/09/2013 21:03

YANBU what a lot of sexist shit

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2013 21:05

Oh no! That means the child I thought was my DD must be a boy! Shock

The Muller link in the OP implies these products don't actually exist yet, not sure what the Tesco 'girls' yogurt is....I tried searching that site and didn't find a 'boys' one on offer. Is this for real?

5madthings · 05/09/2013 21:06

yanbu its crap and its giving children shitty messages reinforcing gender stereotypes.

DancingLady · 05/09/2013 21:06

YANBU. Will not be buying these...

SeaSickSal · 05/09/2013 21:08

My baby boy likes the girls one. And so do I. They're actually fucking lovely then choclatey cereal hearts.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 05/09/2013 21:08

YANBU. I'm not usually one of those who clutches her pearls over 'girls' and 'boys' toys but this really takes the biscuit or erm, yoghurt.

FreudiansSlipper · 05/09/2013 21:10

YANBU

where does it end

TerraNotSoFirma · 05/09/2013 21:10

YANBU but we shouldn't be surprised from the company that did the 'calling all mums' advert. DH and me have boycotted them since then (am sure they are gutted to have lost our custom) :)

LadyBigtoes · 05/09/2013 21:11

Hang on though, isn't it tesco that's saying "girls yogurts"? I can't see any gender-based instructions on the yogurts - though I stand to be corrected. It looks to me like muller is carefully avoiding that, implying you just choose the style that suits you - adventurous or glamorous (or why not mix & match of course).

Oh FFS - really? Yoghurts?? Can't they just bloody leave things alone? The thing is, people will buy them Sad

SirChenjin · 05/09/2013 21:13

LadyBigToes - the yogurts are called 'Fashion' and have shoes on them. With so much peer pressure I'm not sure how many boys might be persuaded - but who knows!

Picturesinthefirelight · 05/09/2013 21:15

I'm on my phone do the link is slow but there is no mention of girls or boys on the Zmullet site. It's labelled " for the adventurous ones " & for the glamorous ones ". It's only the tesco site that says girls so is that Tescos decision not Muller. If so what the difference between them & other character food like Thomas or Moshi.
