To think size 12 is not "heavy"

I keep seeing comments on here from people who are size 10/12 who think they are heavy. I would never think this is even remotely heavy, just a healthy slim size.

Depends on height I guess. I'm 5ft 7 and a size 14. I don't look massive, just the odd lump/bump.

I'd look much bigger if I was 5ft! Smile (but on the average woman, no way does 10/12 look 'heavy').

It's not healthy and slim if you're 5ft tall.

Some people have an unhealthy obsession with their weight and size.

Well that depends entirely on their body shape.

From my own perspective a size 12 would equal about 12-13stone.

I would also say that 5 ft7 and size 14 is not heavy.

I am 5ft 3 and at size 12 can be overweight. So yes it can be heavy.

A size 12, and possibly a 12, would be heavy for me. I was a 12 as a teenager and I weighed at least a stone more than I should have. Of course, I am a short-arse.

Depends how tall you are, surely. I'm overweight and a size 8, so if I was a 12 then I'd be heavy heavier

TheFillyjonk · 30/08/2013 18:58

That should read, a size 10 and possibly a 12

It depends on their height and build surely. I'm a size 8, 5 foot 4. I have a decent figure but with a little excess around my waist. (Id be a natural size 6 but I like my food too much,!) If I went up to a size 12 it would be very heavy on my frame, but not so for someone who was taller or with a bigger build I suppose.

Well I am a size 10 and have a BMI of 27/28 so pretty heavy! At size 12 I would probably be at the top of overweight.

I think it depends on your height and body frame size. I'm 5 ft 6 and went through a phase of being at the larger end of a size 12. I was definitely a bit too heavy for my body type, and probably heading towards the unhealthy BMI range (although I think BMI accuracy can also be way off). That's not counting size during and immediately post-pregnancy though.

It probably also depends how much of your size is made up of muscle - mine was definitely made up of fat! A muscular size 12-14 probably looks less 'heavy' than a size 10-12 who just carries fat.

I don't understand how a size is heavy if you are short but not if you are tall, if it's the same size isn't it tge same Confused

It depends on height and build, I'm 5ft 6 and when I could fit into a size 12, I was slim.

5ft 7 and size 14 isn't necessarily 'heavy' but could be, depending on build. Someone could need a 14 because of large frame/wide hips but the item baggy in other areas & someone else could 'fill' the item completely IYKWIM so be much plumper.

It's all relative.

Loves - if you are 5ft and weigh 11 stone you are fat, if you are 6ft and weigh 11 stone you are thing.

It all depends on height.
I'm size 12 and my bmi is 24 so close to overweight but not there.
I do not weight 12-13st!!

Loves if someone is 5ft 9 and fits in the same item of clothing eg a dress, as someone who is 5ft then the person who is taller will look and be much slimmer.

Now I'm worrying that I am overweight because I'm 5 ft 2 and a size 12.

According to the NHS's BMI calculator I am in the 'healthy weight' band' though..

A current size 12 is probably on the very top side of healthy for most people, especially those of us under about 5' 4". I'm 5' 3" and a size 12 in most high street stores and my bmi is well into the overweight territory and I need to loose a stone and a half. Yet I have size 12 clothes from ten years ago that won't go over my thighs. Vanity sizing is rampant and that and on top of that the sleb magazines are completely distorting our perception of what healthy' should be, in completely opposing ways. We're conditioned to think that size 0 is desirable, but hey we can get get into a UK 12 so that's okay, right? Wrong, for most people. Sorry.

Surely "heavy" is just a PC way of saying "fat". IMO fat people wouldn't fit into a 12.

I'm 5 ft 4, have been a size 12 for years and have always classed myself as slim.

i'm a 12 atm and 5 foot - the heaviest i've been excepting pregnancy... and i feel it. i mean i look good as i've a good shape - in fact, i don't think i've ever looked so well or done so much exercise, but i can can feel it

I agree, loves. We're not talking about weight, we're talking about a clothes size. A 5ft size 12 and a 6ft size 12 would be rather different weights.
