I play by direct debit.

I get an email - subject line "News about your ticket".

I have to click on the link, enter my username and password.

To find out I have won ten measly quid.

In those 14 seconds I imagined myself a millionaire angry

It's when you get two emails because it's too much to put in your National Lottery account, the second email says "your winnings have been paid into your bank"...and it's a tenner. sad

they giveth and they taketh away

PoppyWearer Fri 23-Aug-13 22:48:04

envy At your £10.

I won £2.10 on Euromillions. Oh yes.

pianodoodle Fri 23-Aug-13 22:49:35

I got one of those emails the other week and I'd won £3 on thunderball.

The email title gets me excited every time curse them angry

Callmedreckly Fri 23-Aug-13 22:49:35

In October blush

Those minutes between receiving the email and opening it are amazing. The money's spent before you can say password.

That last one might be more than 140 characters blush

internationallove985 Fri 23-Aug-13 22:58:34

Congratulations on your win, okay it's not a lot but at the same time it's not a little either and winning £10.00 is better than a bee sting.
I didn't even know you could pay for lottery by direct debit I might start as I've lost count of the number of times I've nearly forget to play. How do you set up,a direct debit, do you just call camalot. xxx

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea Fri 23-Aug-13 23:01:22

International, if you do call Camelot just pass on my best swear words. Fuckers the lot of them. Apart from the ones that dish out the money to good causes, obvs.

You can do the DD from their website.

PoppyWearer Fri 23-Aug-13 23:04:02

The subject line for smaller wins should be:

"News about your ticket. But it's not life-changing. Don't go making any plans."

For big wins it should be:

"News about your ticket. You might want to sit down and get a glass of brandy before you read this."

I don't think an email is the right way to go about it for big wins anyway. IMHO. Should be a proactive phone call.

RozziRaspberry Fri 23-Aug-13 23:13:46

I get so excited when I get the e-mail, my first thought is phone dh and say put in your resignation, then I think about what we will spend the money on. I then see it's for £10 so then I phone up my mum as it annoys her if I win and she doesn't grin

StElmo Fri 23-Aug-13 23:14:05

The first (and only) time I played the lottery, I took it to get checked and the woman in Sainsburys checked it and didn't even tell me if I'd won or not, she just opened the till, gave me about 6 quid and a small smile. I didn't understand how she could be so blasé about me winning the lottery.

Pinkpinot Fri 23-Aug-13 23:53:33

We have got that email whilst away on hols and you can't log in abroad!! So had to wait til we got home.

chipsandpeas Sat 24-Aug-13 07:24:15

everyrtime i get that email i think the exact same

Nanny0gg Sat 24-Aug-13 09:19:42

Does anyone know if the e-mail for a big win is any different? I often wondered if the timing of the e-mail told you. Sometimes I've had one really early the next morning, only to find it's £3.

Do you get one that night if you're a millionaire?

BrianButterfield Sat 24-Aug-13 09:23:23

I do that too! You know it's not millions but for that moment it's like Schrödinger's jackpot.

diamond211 Sat 24-Aug-13 09:29:24

Apparently I didn't win anything last night - I say apparently because I am still nurturing a hope that they have somehow made a mistake and they are going to call me today to apologise and then say YOU ARE THE ACTUAL WINNER

Pinkpinot Sat 24-Aug-13 17:12:03

I too wonder if a big win email is different

The email for euro millions comes any time if the day
The email for wed/sat draw comes bang on 7.30am

RoastedCouchPotatoes Sat 24-Aug-13 17:21:24

We once won two thousand, we got contacted by the lottery+bank via phone, but when I won £10, we got it via email.

FatalFlowerGarden Sat 24-Aug-13 18:25:55

Am I the only one who's just checked that the lottery website has my correct mobile number? grin

QuietNinjaTardis Sat 24-Aug-13 20:22:25

You're lucky. I had 3 lots of "news about my ticket" which were all worth £2.50. I've given up now.

CornFlakesAt10PM Sat 24-Aug-13 21:23:59

grin I do this all the time.

I have already pictured the house, the cars, the holidays, the clothes, waving to my new neighbours, the lifestyle - the SMUGNESS.

I then run to the pc, log on only to find that I have won £10 angry
