My 7 yo is at her father's for 5 nights. It's the longest I've ever been away from her (previously only 2 nights) and I miss her loads. I have a two year old too so can't distract myself as well as I might. She rang last night and was excitedly talking about coming home and her father put a film on and turned it up loud so she was distracted/couldn't hear me :-( She asked me to call back tonight but he hasn't answered. We separated when she was one and this is the longest he's ever seen/had her as he worked away and hasn't chosen to extend contact til now. I know a 5 day stint over the entire summer isn't much but I miss her. My friend told me I need to get a grip and let go a bit. AIBU to miss her?

No YANBU. But also try to keep in mind that she is spending quality time with her dad which she will really value. Just think about how nice it will be to see her when she is home.

I miss mine when they stay at their grandparents, it all seems too quiet! This is normal, but try not to worry too much, it's better if she has a good time there but will be glad to get home.

I miss my girls too - they are staying in Wales this week with their dad and his family. I always miss them when they go but know they always have a great time. The time will pass quickly, but the thing is it is so quiet isn't it and suddenly you think 'what do I do now?'

I think I'd feel better if I thought she was having a great time but she was promised they were going camping and they haven't - it's the latest in a long list of broken promises unfortunately.

Not U at all. I miss mine when they go to gp for the night, can't imagine 5 nights with someone I don't love. He doesn't sound the nicest but I'm sure she'll be fine and no doubt you'll be closer for the time apart. Imagine how lovely cuddling her will be.

I miss dd when she goes away even for one night. She's 20 Blush

She'll be home soon, and as long as she's ok. Might be good they didn't get soaked go camping. :)

Go camping in the garden when she gets home, just the two of you together Grin

I think her father putting a film on and turning it up loud so she was distracted/couldn't hear you when she rang you and was excitedly talking about coming home was unkind and childish of him. Ditto him not picking up the phone when you phoned back as your dd had asked you to. Sounds like he was jealous. She'll be home before you know it though.

YANBU, I'd be worried if you didn't miss her.

Ds is with his father for four weeks.

We split three years ago and before that I was with ds all the time, his father was never bothered about spending time with him (he's still not, ds spends the majority of his time there with his fathers girlfriend, siblings or parents, but it's the principle that matters to ex), so it's hard.

It's only natural that would miss her and think about her. I hope the time passes quickly for you both.
