Blurred Lines and young girls on This Morning

Watching This Morning (AIBU?? ) and they are having a family quiz/challenge session between two families.
For one part of the challenge they play the song Blurred Lines and two of the young girls (aged about 7-9 I think) get given top hats, canes and blazers and they dance about to the music while Ruth says "I love this song!" And their parents clapped, smiled and cheered them on.

Now, am I being a grumpy old fart or am I right in saying this song isn't appropriate for young girls to dance to?

Not sure if they bleeped the word bitch out, but I looked at the music video and it's full of naked women wearing only skin-coloured g-strings... Boobs all over the place...

Am prepared to be flamed for being an idiot but I just thought they could've chosen any other song. Sigh.

YANBU, that song makes me Gangnam Style would have been better, hell even Sexy and I know it would have been better!

I think YANBU but sadly it happens all the time, kids on Britains Got Talent praised for dancing erotically to similar lyrics, it's everywhere. I feel a real fuddy duddy when I try to limit what my own DCs listen to. "All my friends have that album, mum". I remember when albums had age ratings and warnings on the covers, now they just get downloaded.

Shocking! My 10 year old pointed out to me the inappropriate lyrics and told me she hated the song, even though it has a "funky beat"!

I was quite impressed with her attitude and felt a bit proud as she turned the radio off!

Finally a thread about this! I was at this when I saw it this morning. Surely they listened to the lyrics before they thought it was appropriate for small children to have to act it out...

As an adult I quite like the song, but it's not the sort of song kids should listen to, or have to dance to/act out!

There is a clean bbc radio edit version, with that whole bad bit excluded, and all the bad words taken out.

There is a certificate U ( clean version) of the video as well.

Those versions are the ones kids know.

It was a bbc programme.

Like the Scream amd Shout song my kids like , but onlyever listen to clean version.

I actually find the most offensive part is the being told 'you know you want it', I think I find that more offensive than anything else about it.

I really like that song. The commercially played version is anodyne as it has been edited.

Rooners - that is so the most offensive bit. I turn the radio off when this song comes on on principle. My kids asked why and i just said it was not right and that they were telling a woman to do something she didn't want to do and that a person always should be listened to and respected if they don't want to do something.

I didn't see This Morning, but I had no idea of the lyrics of the song . I have just seen the video and I am appalled that women are content to parade around with just nude pants on, dancing around fully dressed men. It's just another horrid example of the way society recently seems to be going to a disgusting level of chauvinism. It's incredible that we strive for equality and the payback is to be further objectified, insulted and ridiculed. And many women like the ones in this video don't help .

How is that NOT offensive? It's telling someone she wants sex even if she is 'pretending' not to be interested.

I remember adoring Relax at about that age though. Had a vague idea it was 'rude', but no idea why.
Do,lyrics go over kids' heads these days or are they all so hyper aware they understand more than fudsters like me?

I know they weren't forced. I am frustrated by the amount of women who think its perfectly lovely to be the butt of illustrations of suggested rape etc or to think that getting their breasts out for public titillation is a good thing.

I have the latest Now album, to play in my car, it has this song on it.
The only one I know what the lyrics mean are this one, because MN go on and on about it.
The rest, I sing along with, but have no idea.

I remember the lyrics of Relax completely passing me by, had no idea what the fuss was about.
I don't let my boys watch music tv channels, as my dh says that most female artists seem to be acting like strippers/ pole dancers in every video. Not on.

twelve I remember when 'relax' came out.

My sister was sniggering and trying to get my Mum to listen to try and her.

justforlaughs took me YEARS to work out why 'Relax' caused so much trouble...I had no idea what it was on about, could sing every word (probably around 11 at the time) but didn't get it at all. I think sometimes we make a fuss about these things but children' don't necessarily understand what they're singing about - even if they have more worldly wise friends, it's unlikely they're about to admit they don't understand so that someone has to explain the lyrics to them!

But blurred lines if vile and as a parent, am concerned about what our children are exposed to. I am just not sure that it's changed that much since we were young.
