AIBU?

To think that parents that smoke near their DC should be prosecuted....

If you forced a child to eat/drink a carcenogenic substance you would be arrested. But just because the poison comes from a licenced, taxed product then this seems to be perfectly acceptable.

Lung disease is too common in children of smokers and yet the authorities do fuck all about the cause.

Also parents of obese children should be prosecuted for abuse. It is the parents fault that their offspring are fat. Recently a 10 yr old girl weighed in at 24stone!!!!!! Now the NHS/SS will have to pick up the tab for getting this poor child back to a healthy weight.

I have 3DC all have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and their bodies. Its not fucking rocket science.

Yanbu... In fact, I think all parents should be prosecuted for making mistakes in any area of parenting... And I think we should vote YOU op in as judge, jury and executioner... You know, since you are doing such a bang up and faultless job. Biscuit

Society needs smokers to keep the pension deficit down.

What happens when parents are separated one does all your right things and the other smokes and feeds the child all the wrong things so the child has a weight problem. Oh and it is 50:50 patenting as this is what the child wants. Not so simple then is it?

You actually got up early to post this?

I was going to start a pithy thread about baby walkers and ankle injuries but this one seems better.

Yanbu, making cigarettes unavailable would solve the problem overnight. It is not illegal to smoke as much as I agree with you.

To what extent should they be prosecuted? A fine maybe? Some enlightening course to " raise awareness"? Jail time perhaps?

How far do you think this should go?

Grin. Aaah the naieve poster. I think people who smoke and eat unhealthy foods should be castrated/made infertile to prevent them having children. That'll solve the problem.

I think you'll find that lots of food, drinks, toiletries etc do contain carcinogens so perhaps you should include those that don't live a completely organic life on your list.

The only way we could afford to prosecute and jail the hundreds of thousands of smokers would be to insist that everyone buy tobacco so the government could you use the vast amount of tax they receive from the purchasing to incarcerate everyone.

Really, it would be more simple to ban tobacco products... And food... It is human rights/ health and safety / nanny state gone made Hmm

Do you use toothpaste in their teeth! Toothpaste contains carcinogens. You must stop cleaning their teeth immediately. All parents who clean their children's teeth are abusive and should be prosecuted.

Oh. Wait .....

On their teeth. My bad. And ? Not ! Damn phone. It probably has carcinogens too.

Report
Fakebook · 07/08/2013 07:48

What about sunlight? That's a carcinogen. We should keep our children in dark basements until sunset.

Report
theodorakisses · 07/08/2013 07:49

Considering the ignorance and immaturity of the thread spotty, I think "in their teeth" would have been just fine.

OP: How about foods containing aspartamine.
A known carcinagenic - banned in the USA.
Also causes brain damage.

IMO sugar is preferable to sweeteners.

Do you know how many times strawberries, lettuce etc are sprayed with poisons that you cannot smell or see?

BTW I think YABU.

What about dihydrogen monoxide? It's really dangerous OP, you really need to get on the case regarding it.

I think all those parents who drink wine every night should be lined up and shot and then Mumsnet would be a busy vibrant place where we can share tips about the best tea bags for hard or soft water.

I think they should ban smoking outside school gates. Some children and adults get smoke related asthma. It's not like they have a choice about their child going to school. My PILs both smoke heavily as a result my dh and bil have never smoked.

OP kinda has a point - how long will it be until someone brings a case against their parents for health issues caused by passive smoking when they were children.

Parents who smoke in the house (as well as being disgusting) are also showing scant regard for their DCs health.

I know an actual rocket scientist who smokes?

I must ask him what profession he uses to imply that something isn't difficult.

It's not carpentry is it?

I don't smoke, drink or eat crap. I have excellent parenting skills as a result of this.
