Today it has been hot. About 28 degrees where I live. I am 20 weeks pg and have done 3 loads of washing, vacumed downstairs, taken DD to ride pony for a 40 minute hack, given pony a hairdo, done a bit of shopping, brought 3 loads of washing from garden, taken dog on 2 20minute walks, visited my mum, made lunch for me and DD, made tea for us all and washed pots and tidied around.

Had long maternity leggings and a strappy maternity top.

Never broke into a sweat tho I was warm.

I'm now bollock naked apart from big pants on top of the bed and I'm sweating my arse off!!! I have a glass of iced water at the side of me. All the windows are open.

Wtf is it hotter now than at 4pm when sun was out, I was dressed and had the oven on?

It's going to be a long hot sweaty night.

Are you lying on top of the duvet?

The top of the house will be warmer, but it will cool down a bit soon

Hormones?

I used to get roasting hot at night when I was pregnant. Throwing the bedclothes off and sleeping in the nud hot.

In December.

Hmm

It isn't hotter. You're hotter.

I think the house bricks just absorb the day's heat and the house gets hotter and hotter as the day goes on. Our houses are so well insulated it just takes ages to cool down. The heat rises to the top of the house by the end of the day and inside there is no relief from a breeze.

But would like to know the real science behind this.

Houses absorb heat because of the bricks and insulation, top that off with heat rising (assuming your bedroom is upstairs) and voila! House becomes a sauna!

I'm currently sitting on a bed, starkers with big glass of water and its reading 28 degrees on my fan, so I sympathise

Nomnew that could be the case I suppose.

Do you think ice cream will reduce my core temp or is it a bit late at night for that? And can I sit naked on the back step to eat it while the bricks cool down?

Yes I'd get out in the garden for a while in cool evening air and have something cold to eat/drink. Do you have any freezer/cool blocks in freezer you could put in your bed like a cold water bottle?

I agree it is too bloody hot & it's worse at night. Although I did actually faint from the heat/dehydration (how Victorian) in Morrisons last week. The embarrassment! And I don't even have the excuse of being pregnant, although they do remember me fainting in there when I was pregnant. More than once. I really don't like hot weather.

As above insulation, British house are designed to keep heat in. . .

It's been 32 here,

I think ice cream is medically advised Grin

I think the humidity rises at night as well, I checked the BBC weather page because I think it's way hotter at night too. It does seen to go up more. I am lying in bed with the fan in my face, if I move from the fan it's like putting my face in an oven. HOT.

You could always sleep downstairs as it is definitely cooler and less stuffy.

I've been trying to buy one for a month xales. Sigh.

Bastard kids eaten all the mini magnums. I hid 2 as well. They have even had the white ones that no one really likes. Had to have a bart Simpson icepop instead. And have 3 moths in the kitchen now and even the dog is too hot to chase them.

DP snoring under quilt ffs. It's him that is making me feel hot. Bastard.

I was boiling at night when pregnant, and that was in autumn / winter. I think it's the hormones!

It's not much difference downstairs thismousebites. Huge bay windows on front which is south facing so living room with sofa been baking all day and I wouldn't dare have windows open.

Wet a flannel and wring it out. Lay it on your forehead or baby bump!

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I spend the evening in the shower and eating home made orange juice ice lollies in an attempt to keep cool. Baby kicked the hell out of me the other day for eating 2 at 11pm - don't think he/she appreciated my late night ice lolly munching.

I sleep naked on top of the covers and have a fan blowing on me all night.

With the above routine I'm actually sleeping pretty well.

I think I actually growled at my DH earlier in the week when he said I probably didn't need the fan on as it was a cooler night and went to turn it off. He soon stepped away from it!

DreamingOfTheMaldives · 02/08/2013 08:07

Just to clarify, I don't actually eat the ice lollies whilst in the shower!

I'm menopausal, the nights are dreadful at the moment.

Boiling hot one minute despite a fan. open doors and no covers then freezing cold the next.

I have a can of water which I spray over myself when I feel the heat coming on, with the fan on as well it works well for a few minutes.

The wind generally drops at night so although the air outside is cooling down there is less wind to blow it around.

I've found it helpful to put a fan on the windowsill for an hour before I go to bed to try and draw some cooler air in. My big issue is if I go to bed and have the light on to read with the windows open then every moth/crane fly within a five mile radius come in for a party. Arghhh. So I usually shut the windows for half an hour to read but the room then heats up again. Arghhh.

And I'm not pregnant, and only did 2 loads of washing yesterday. I feel for you OP!
