Why make up stories on here?

In reference to the most recent deleted post.. The op ended every reply with a 'x' ... A red flag if ever there was one!

Who knows why people would do this, but I do wish that we could see what made MNHQ decide when a thread is a wind up and when it is genuine. I always assume that people are genuine - and then get bitten on the bum! I just don't get it confused

and waits for this thread to be deleted as a Thread about a thread! grin

I was going to say something similar. How do they know I wonder?

deleted203 Thu 01-Aug-13 20:41:00

I have no idea! I find it completely bizarre, TBH, and can't see the point. The only reason I post on here is to ask genuine questions, ask for honest opinions from people who can hopefully take an unbiased view of my situation, or to offer my own perspective if I feel I have something to contribute.

I could (presumably) pretend to be a glamorous, rich, beautiful blonde with a fabulous lifestyle. But I'd rather be honest about the fact that I'm a cynical 46 yo with a lot of teenagers and occasionally helpful views on life.

It's the internet,it's what people do.

AnnabelleLee Thu 01-Aug-13 20:42:49

Why not?

Also, whats your AIBU?

It's got to be said that it was the most interesting thread on here today wink

SoleSource Thu 01-Aug-13 20:44:38

I was just telling Prince Charles about that thread when it was deleted. He has gone orf to chat to his plants now in a mood!

scrazy Thu 01-Aug-13 20:44:48

Because life can be boring, the posters life may be boring, and most people lead rather run of the mill lives, so when a sensational thread is posted, if probably made up. What was it about?

scrazy Thu 01-Aug-13 20:45:48

'it' not if

runningonwillpower Thu 01-Aug-13 20:45:57

I've been on a forum where made up threads were genuinely funny.

If well done, the OP can spin out the joke and the replying posters gradually see the light but with good humour on both sides. It's not easy to do but if it's done well it can be really funny. But it only works if there is no real intent to deceive, just amuse. And very few people can pull it off.

If you are talking about the thread I have in mind, there was no humour or entertainment value.

Passmethecrisps Thu 01-Aug-13 20:46:25

It's a wee bit of attention. No harm really if it is just chatter. More problematic if people get involved emotionally.

Doubtfuldaphne Thu 01-Aug-13 20:46:33

It certainly was the most interesting on here today.
Is it sad that I feel a shiver of excitement when I see that mnhq have had to get involved in something? I must get out more.

Apologies for the lack of aibu

hesterton Thu 01-Aug-13 20:49:14

I'm sure MNHQ has a list of ip addresses which red flag when users from them start threads. There'll be half a dozen trolling regulars they have to kick off over and over again...

usualsuspect Thu 01-Aug-13 20:49:18

Which thread was it?

cacamilis Thu 01-Aug-13 20:49:50

which thread was this?

Bowlersarm Thu 01-Aug-13 20:51:12

Quickly whisper what thread it was.....

I always get suckered in. I'm not very good at spotting trolls blush

Now I'm getting sceptical about other threads on here sad

WorraLiberty Thu 01-Aug-13 20:52:02

Is it sad that I feel a shiver of excitement when I see that mnhq have had to get involved in something?

Yes grin

whispers "OP claimed that her DP had a wife and kids up North" that she didn't know about.

Yeah I know which one you're talking about. Did anyone actually reply?

Passmethecrisps Thu 01-Aug-13 20:53:54

Ah!

Saw it. Knew it.

Hi-5s self.

theWookiesWife Thu 01-Aug-13 20:54:30

It's a shame .... Could this be because no one just smiles or says hi when they are out and about anymore ... What is this world coming to ! sigh full of lonely people !

usualsuspect Thu 01-Aug-13 20:54:43

I rarely read relationship threads, most of the trolls seem to hang about in there.
