...to think it's odd to be smug that your child has the same name as the prince

Seen this quite a lot in the last few days - mostly on Facebook/twitter etc to be fair. People just really smug that one of their DCs shares a name with the new prince.

Wow, get you - three years ago you picked an already popular name which is now also the name of the future king. They must have copied you, you trendsetter. No no, please show me more photos of your 'Prince George'. Hmm

I've even seen one post where parent was extremely proud of the fact that his DC shared a middle name with new prince George.

I don't get it tbh. And I'm probably being IR. Wink

"They must have copied you, you trendsetter"

Grin

Ah let them have their (grasping at straws) moment. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a feeling of superiority every now and then - so grump away safe in the knowledge you're not a twat Wink

My Granddad is called George - has been for 93 Years! It's like his parents had a crystal ball Grin.
I know what you mean and YANBU. 3 of my FB friends have linked the princes name to their family.
To be fair if you chose a fairly regal name for your child (I.E - one that has been used by a king or queen in the past) chances are the royals will use it at some point.

If I had just had a baby George, I would be proper pissed off - there will be dozens of them in that peer group now!

Oh, and I would feel the need forever more to point out to people who HAD named their George after the prince, that I HAD NOT

(this happened to a friend who had a (very unusual) Leo just before the Blairs!)

I have a 13 year old George and I just think it's funny - he is really pissed off though! Especially as we live in Cambridge too Grin

My friend's cat is called George. She is bursting with pride. Grin

I have the same name as a minor (ish) royal who wasn't minor when we were both born. She was born a month before me, which meant that everyone assumed I had been 'named' after her.

I have a 6 month old DD, & was terrified that Kate would have a girl and call her the same name as DD! As they'd be a similar ago I was dreading people thinking I'd just copied, & knew it would make the name popular. I have a DS too, but he's 2.8 years and isn't called George anyway.

So don't really understand people being pleased tbh!

My baby is due next week. Pleased they've come to a decision, means I can knock George off my list. I'd be annoyed if I'd just had a baby George.

See, if it was an unusual name I'd understand being pissed/smug (delete as appropriate) but it's a common name, there's going to be dozens of them anyway!

I have to say that my son is Xander and I did feel happy that they chose Alexander. Not for any showey reason and I wouldn't say it out loud but it was more of a "I knew it was a quality name"

I do however know lots of george's there are 3 in ds2's class and 2 in ds1's

My newborn son is St George. I grew up in Bucklebury and went to the same primary school as Kate, so I know that they really are copying me. Wink

Westiemamma - have you really called your son St George? Surely Prince George would have been more apt Grin

It sounds like daft, throw away banter. We have two George's in our office and I've heard a few pleasant & silly comments, it means nothing.

Oh I posted that DS2's middle name is George Blush

I wasn't being smug, honestly. It was almost his first name but I am not not not a royalist, quite the opposite.

DS2 is George and he was very proud that the baby prince has the same name as him. I however couldn't care less!

10 years ago when we chose DS2's name it was more unusual and I didn't know any other children with the name. I am quite disappointed at the popularity it has now and the fact that there will more than likely be hundreds more now.

I'm really pissed off actually.Angry My first son is due in the next week and we settled on George months ago - as soon as the sex was confirmed. He's been baby George to family for months. But now it's just going to look like we jumped on the royal bandwagon. Not amused!

Thank goodness they didn't choose my DS's quite uncommon name. I'd have been fuming. There'd be loads of them in school in 5 yrs time.
