AIBU?

To not think too much of the Proms so far this year on the BBC?

After such a fantastic season last year, I'm really disappointed with the coverage on the BBC? Really lacking in content and what they do have on is only on iPlayer for a couple of days.

Can there really be so little interest? Sad

The Wagner ring cycle is being performed in its entirety for the first time - not a sniff on television, and the online radio wasn't working for the last one. I'm absolutely gutted not to be seeing this.

Anyone got any thoughts?

The Dr Who ones were filmed, presumably to be shown around 50th anniversary.

Thanks LIZS. I think they're part of my problem actually!

So much energy put into the Proms lighter programme at the expense of the more traditional.

I just think you should showcase the amazing talent - how can Daniel Barenboim NOT be televised?!

So it's not being shown...at all??

I could not agree with you more.
Last years was covered so well, even with all the olympic stuff going on. But this year there's so little shown, despite such a great programme. Just as you say, the 'lighter' stuff ...

HeySoulSister - it is being shown, but a far, far more condensed programme than last year. This time last year I was watching a Beethoven every night - each one of the nine (I know that for a fact as I slept through two as I was incapacitated with flu Grin)

This year like I said the Wagner Ring cycle is being performed - not television. There was a condensed highlights programme earlier this week and Benjamin Britten was afforded 4 minutes....

Venus - I feel villified that is isn't just me being a curmudgeon!

I just can't understand why the BBC aren't showing it. It starts at 4.30. Couldn't they start BBC3 three hours early and show it?!

Rantity Rant Rant Rant.

I appreciate I'm maybe a touch biased with my completely inappropriate adoration for Daniel Barenboim, but the man is a genius!

I usually watch several on telly but haven't seen a single one this year, totally forgot it was proms season tbh, which is quite sad really

BBC3 can't start 3 hours early as it channel-shares with Cbeebies on Freeview. It cannot start broadcasting until Cbeebies goes off. Same with BBC4 and CBBC.

Oh that's interesting EFNO - I didn't know that, thank you.

I still think they could show all of it - red button, BBC music channel. It is such an important event and such a cornerstone of our heritage.

It's a shame they couldn't take over BBC Parliament for some of the summer, like they have done before for other big events, although I'm not sure if the proms end before Parliament is back in session.

The red button service has been cut back a lot, they only have one stream most of the time, and there are issues about making stuff available on one platform and not others, which is why a lot of the extra content you used to be able to get on sky/VM has been removed, because Freeview doesn't have the capacity. Radio 3 is covering everything, I think, but I agree, it is different to having it televised.

EFNO - that's just it - for some events, radio works perfectly. But the showmen you want to see.

It really sticks in my craw that BBC are doing so little any more for the Arts and Sports
