AIBU?

To hate Windows 8 with the whole of my heart ..... and more .....

My system has just automatically upgraded on my PC and wiped my drivers etc etc - and it no longers functions. Rolling back doesn't seem to help as I now have a blank screen on re-booting...

I have hated it from day one and I hate even more as I can't do anything.... It was impossible to build back up discs from Day 1 and had to get a a set from the PC supplier - if i use those now I shall loose everything...

I do hope that whoever designed this pile of C**P has a very uncomfortable couple of days as I shall be "projecting nasty thoughts"......
as I try to rebuild my PC - pull off my photos and important contacts and roll back to at least Windows 7.....

YANBU I hate windows 8 with a passion never does what you want it to flicks between screens, am actually going to pay someone to take windows 8 out and put windows 7 in, which is ridiculous that I have to do this on a laptop that is 4mths old Angry

Every other windows OP is shit, which is why I refuse to buy a replacement laptop (even if I could afford, which I cant!) until the next one is released. I got stuffed with 98, Millennium AND Vista!

YADNBU. I hate mine with a passion as it has driven a wedge between Firefox and I, as it crashes every single time I try to use any browser other than IE. My new computer is a paperweight as I dumped it for my old, ratty, 1/4 of the screen covered in lines that won't go away, always crashing old computer with Windows 7. Because when that one crashes, it doesn't take hours to reboot, and I can use my beloved Firefox.

I can't stand it - I was very lucky to get a laptop for my birthday; came preloaded with windows 8...very nearly went through a window within a day!

It randomly uninstalls drivers, unpins stuff from my taskbar, is currently insisting that I have to use Xbox music (never blardy heard of it), and is refusing to import photos from a flash drive.

If my old laptop hadn't actually died on me, I'd go back to using that instead.

I just got a laptop yesterday. I'm not sure what to think of 8 yet.

I'm still getting used to the new look of things. So far, I have encountered one glitch in the way I can't back browse in the app store. I will see if reboot sorts that.

Anyone else being driven mad by the random pop up clock?!

Have scoured the control panel but can't seem to find a way to turn it off!!!

Also hate the way its so sensitive to flicking between screens.......oh & a million other things!

I hate it. I can see it would work (perhaps) with a touch screen but it's awful on a normal laptop. I don't bother with it anymore and navigate clunkily from the file page.

Joining club. On Sunday we bought DS his part birthday/part 8 months of saving present. A brand new Minecraft friendly desktop.

24 hours to get it to be more than a pretty box becuase

  1. It won't hook up via wifi. The modem is now on a chair poking put of a door so the new computer can be ethernet cabled and the rest of us can cpget 2 bars of wifi.

  2. It hates Java.

  3. It didn't ant to download anything. Not even a fecking pdf. Had to turn off ALL securty settings just to download a fecking pdf.

    48 hours

Steam coming out of ear cos of "random screen flick"

Think perhaps trying to make an OS that works on all devices, touch screen and otherwise, was an error.

Wishnthere was a way to elimate the start screen, turn off screen flick and ust work immediatly from desktop mode.

Thank god I have long experience of OSs and "out of the box" trial and tribulations. No idea what a novice would be reducted to in that situation. Expensive call out just to get the peice of shit up and running probably.

Still, at least I got Minecraft installed and running in just 2 (fecking) days after opening the box. With DS pratically vibrating with desire to finally get his hands on the non ipod version, given he has spent 8 months longing for it.

I love Macs.

I have the ever so cute Mac classic. Actually I still do. Too cute to chuck. I also queue for the first iMac (ii). Which I also still have. Too cute to chuck.

BUT...

We paid 800 euros for DS's new puter. A Mac was closer to 2000 euros. And DS's goes to an online indpedpendant secondary school. And their classroom software isn't Mac compatible. Given that school is the primary use and the greatest motivation for us to buy a new 'putet (laptop slowly dying) it makes more sense to pay about half the price for a package that doesn't require expensive and clunky work arounds like Virtual Windows.

So Ebil windows is unavoidable.

Bit dear god, 7 was so much less of a pain in the arse than 8.

Am a bit worried that the next upgrade to iOS for the iPad will be windows 8 ish. The idea of its tenticles and clunky, blocky chunkiness will migrate and ruin the beloved iPad makes me a little tearful.

But it's better than Vista, wrist slittingly unreliable, impossible, ARGGGGG! inducing, bastard Vista.

But only by a hair.

I bought a laptop for work purposes in November. I was one of the first (inadvertently) to get Windows 8. It's been really hard to get used to. But... Now 8 months on I am there.

HTH

I hate the way when I try to open a photo whilst using word (or something) - it jumps to another screen and I can't figure out how to have them side by side. I hate the way when I try to open a pdf it insists I start some other software as a trial - I just want the standard acrobat reader.

I am fairly savvy with computers but windows 8 annoys me so much I tend to retreat to an old windows 7 pc, reboot to linux, or even us the ancient mac (which is not my cup of tea). Can't quite bring my self to wipe it of windows 8 yet - keep thinking it is just a case of getting to know it - but I really can't be bothered to try.

As Bogey said upthread, it is well-known that Windows OSs go one good, one terrible!

IME, 8 was designed more for tablets and the like than for actual PC users. All those flicky screens and having to manually go to your own desktop ... so weird.
Do try to roll back to 7, it's currently the best one available if you ask me. I'm using it right now Grin

Finally treated myself to a new laptop - never even considered the OS - and oh dear lord, it drives me mad. Not got a clue how to do any of the things I did on W7, but AM learning not to let the cursor get too near any of the corners/edges of the screen!

I agree with the poster who said it's more suitable to being used on a touchscreen.

Agree! Everything seems so much more complicated on Windows 8.

It is totally non user friendly. I think it must have been designed and tested by robots, not humans.

And that flicking between screens thing is beyond irritating. Does anyone know how to stop it happening? I end up just closing down screens in the top left hand corner but is there a simpler way?

Oh, and for some reason I can't watch On Demand stuff on Lovefilm on the internet with Windows 8. It keeps saying I haven't installed Silverlight when I bloody have, a million times! And it's there, on my list of active programs!!!
