To wonder should we be having wine every evening

I was watching Midsomer Murders last night and every meal was accompanied by wine. It's the same with other programmes - anytime anyone arrives home from work they take a bottle of wine out of the fridge; it someone is making dinner they have a glass of wine on the counter while they're chopping the onions; and every meal is accompanied by a nice bottle on the table.
DH and I would usually have a couple of glasses of wine with our dinner on a Sat evening and sometimes on Fri as well depending on what's going on with DD.
But AIBU to now be wondering if we should be chilling with wine every evening like the folks on the telly?

Well I won't be, as I don't like it, but I agree that it seems to be portrayed as the "norm" on television. They obviously earn more than we do, for a start.

That said, when watching The Killing I was mostly thinking "ANOTHER espresso Troels Hartmann? It's 11 o'clock at night!"

I think have wine every evening if you want to. I think if you wanted to you'd already be doing it rather than thinking you 'should' because it's on tv a lot. I don't- not because I see anything wrong with it- my mum does have wine with her evening meals most nights- I just never got into the habit of buying alcohol as part of the weekly shopping to have in the house and so It never occurs to me just to have a glass with dinner. there are times when I think i'd love a wee drink if it's been a crap day but I think that's not a healthy association. for me anyway.

but if you want more wine- have more wine. not because it's on tv, but because you want it.

Always boggles my mind when the property/house buying programmes suggest that the prospective purchasers could be enjoying a nice glass of wine in the garden, or a nice glass of wine in the bath, or a nice glass of wine in the living room next to the enormous picture window. They too seem to think everything revolves around wine.

I think it's just used as a prop to suggest relaxation. Coffee is also used as a prop to suggest nerviness, edginess etc.

Bollox to all of it but I'd like to be in the position to be enjoying a big cup of tea in the garden of one of the nearly-million pound country cottages the property programmes insist on showing me.

If someone comes home from work and puts the kettle on you know they're not as sophisticated and successful as the wine tipplers. Also, the wine drinkers bring the food to the table in serving bowls, the tea drinkers plonk it on the plate before serving (and call it 'tea' not 'dinner').

We watched midsommer last night ( love it sadly) and I said to dh that Cully and dad were downing lots.

Really pissed of too as it made me want one and we got a no alcohol Tuesday. Dh's idea the bastard.

The good thing about this hot weather is that my wine cravings have seriously abated. A nice cold glass of milk is all I want when I get home from work.

I was wondering what Cully's name is too. Also why she was in the programme last night, as she didn't seem to have much to do (except drink wine).

Ha ha I glug wine while cooking the dinner and then more while eating....but I plonk the saucepans on the table straight from the hob and let people get on with it...what sort of horrible slattern does that make me??

My Granny had a G&T at 5pm everyday, a glass of wine with her meal and a brandy before bed. She was never 'drunk' in her whole life though. I can't say it was unhealthy for her, she lived until 96.

It wouldn't be healthy for me though, I have a different lifestyle to her and enjoy occasionally drinking enough to be pissed (yes, I enjoy the occasional binge) so I can't drink everyday as well!

I see no issue with a small glass (125ml) of wine with dinner every day. Could I stop at a small glass everyday? No.
