A school run mum once proudly declared that her freezer compartment was empty. Ie we only have fresh food.
Aibu to think that actually some frozen food is better than fresh. Ie veg.

Veg, meat, fish kept frozen mean we always have food for the whole week. Plus where does she keep her ice cream and frozen lemon slices for g&t?

YANBU! I feel proud when my freezer is completely full up - cheap shopping for the next couple of weeks!

And lot of frozen veg is actually better than fresh as it is frozen really quickly after being picked and retains more vitamins.

MrsHoarder - frozen lemon slices? Surely you mean lime slices!?!

She has no ice cream?!? Is she human? Perhaps she's from Mars?

She must throw a lot of food away then - how's that good for anything?

After my kitchen was redone, I only had room for a fridgefreezer, not a seperate freezer. I am lost!! My freezer is tiny and holds next to nothing!! I am jealous of anyone who can get a 2 week shop in their freezer!! Grin

Frozen food is great. It's there. Ready to go. What's wrong with storing food in the freezer. She must either waste a lot or shop ever day.

YANBU. What on earth is wrong with frozen meat, fish and vegetables? What about making extra and freezing it, or freezing a glut of stuff you've grown?

I even got a utility room built to house an extra freezer, amongst other things. There's a good range of frozen fruit and vegetables available today, which is perfect for quick stir frys and other healthy meals when you can't be arsed to chop, which is most of the time for me.

I went to a huge farm shop recently which had big freezers full of fruit and veg that had been picked within the surrounding few miles and frozen straightaway. She IBU.

I do think frozen fruit and veg are mushy though. They're great if you're putting them in stir fry, soup, a pudding etc but you can't just give them a quick boil like you can with fresh.

Aside from anything else, a full freezer is much more efficient to run..... and what would you do with left over sauces and ice cream

I have 2 freezersBlush a stand alone and half and half. I like to fill them with reduced stuff from Morrison's at about 3-30pm. That reminds me I need to take out some fish for dinner!

I can't fit much in my freezer and have no space for another one.

I would save a lot of money if I could freeze leftovers.

She's being ridiculous. How much does she throw away?

I don't like it when our freezer isn't full. Frozen veg is great and I've got all sort of pots of stuff I've batch cooked.

Plus we have to have a supply of fishfingers for when I can't be bothered to cook.

You are not being unreasonable to think that she was being ridiculous, if she really was saying it smugly.

I love my freezers. I had to buy a new fridge freezer for indoors recently and it is smaller than the old one. Tricky. Luckily we have a spare in the garage.

Perhaps she is stealth boasting about not having it full of Turkey Twizzlers Grin

She is deluded. An empty freezer is uneconomical to run for a start.

I often batch cook/bake and store the results in the freezer for future use. I keep bread in there - often home made and sliced before storing, because we can't always eat an entire loaf before it goes stale.

Currently I have in my freezer: home made scones, home made soup, home made tomato sauce for pasta, home made apple sauce, frozen peas, broad beans and edamame beans, frozen kaffir lime leaves, ice cream, onion rings, oven chips (yes!), pasta, sausages and loads of other stuff.

I live in a rural area and have to get in the car to go shopping or I have it delivered. To keep a week's worth of food in the house I need the use of my freezer.

I get twitchy unless there is at least 2 weeks worth of meals in the freezer. I buy meat direct from the abbatoir and veg direct from the farm.

I was in Sainsbo's a few days ago and looking at their veg. Super short shelf life and mega expensive.

YABU to rise to school gate food one-upmanship. She mustn't have much to occupy her mind. But no, of course food isn't made worse by the fact that it's been frozen. Perhaps she just doesn't distinguish between a frozen joint of organic lamb and a Findus Crispy Pancake, but I wouldn't join in if I were you.

I feel smug when my freezer is full of homemade leftovers in tiny toddler sized portions and a few 2x adult sized portions. makes me feel all domestic goddess-y

Report

Is she talking about frozen food in the sense of processed ready meals/nuggets type or leftovers/frozen veg/meat type?

My freezer is full of meat and veg but has nothing 'conveniency'
