to ask for your HONEST opinions, should i get the side of my head shaved?

i have a short choppy hairstyle and am going for a trim tomorrow and am thinking of asking my hairdresser to shave the side of my head, can't really describe it but its a bit like rihanna here

am 33, if it looks shit, it will grow back right? its only hair

i will also put a pic of myself on here, how my hair looks now - for a VERY short time, so people can judge advise

again, please be honest, i promise i won't be offended :o

I've been getting my head shaved for about 20 years. I'm 44.

If you want it shaved, get it shaved.

Sorry, not helpful I know, but I think you're just a bit long in the tooth for that sort of cut. And before anyone shoots me down in flames I'm a LOT older and had some pretty mental hair do's in my youth!

1. Unless you are a regular user of hair extensions or weave you will have an 'inbetween' period, that means it won't be shaved but it won't be the same length as you own hair, you will have tufts. If you don't have long hair that you can flip over, it will look even worse.
   

1. I have seen this soooo often with DCs friends and even some of my friends, it was very popular here when Rihanna and Cassie did it, a few (maybe 3?) years ago. Most of them have said to me that they wish they hadn't done it as it has been a right pain, looses its novelty factor very quickly, and often that they had ended up having to use weave or extensions to cover it.

But do it if you fancy it, it's just hair, it'll grow back. I don't think age matters. It can look gorgeous if it suits your face shape.

I wouldn't have that hair style personally as I think it would be a right faff and look good for all of 5 minutes before needing redone by a stylist but if you want to try it then go for it, it's only hair and will grow back and if you are fed up of it in a few months you can wear hats over winter while it grows out.

I used to have a Salt and Pepa in the 80s. Many happy memories of being stopped in the street and complimented. That was a few decades ago, of course. Growing it out WAS a pain.

Don't do it, it already looks dated and a bit daft to be honest. Unless you are the kind of person who would have experimented with hair and maybe are a bit alternative, then you'll just look like a rather behind trend follower.

My only word of warning would be that although it does grow back when you have one side shaved it takes forever to get it evened up with the rest if you want to change the style. I had one side of mine shaved (surgery not choice) & the rest turned into a large dreadlock in hospital so was cut short. It has been 12 months & I am still trying to grow out the shaved bit to a length that will let me do something with it other than look like a bad toupe
On the other hand you are a lot younger & undoubtedly more stylish than me so if you want to do it go for it .

Och do it, I got an undercut like that for my 40th birthday and it looked great. It's just hair. (Although I would concur that growing it was a total faff and took ages...)

Nooooooo, don't do it! It looks bizarre rather than quirky beyond the age of about 21 unless you look as amazing as (and are as famous as!) Rihanna, and as others have said, it takes flipping AGES to grow out.

My hair has been undercut since 2008 as it is so thick I suffered headaches from the weight of it even at shoulder length. Most people ddon't even notice it, as its purely practical and not an obvious fashion statement type hairstyle. I would say it needs regularly shaved or gets really itchy. I dread ever growing it out, as it looks really shit when I leave it too long, I will have to eventually cut all my (arse length) hair off if I want ridof it so it grows evenly. Luckily if iI wear my hair down it looks like a normal head of hair. If you have short hair anyway and can tolerate having an awful hairstyle for 3 months while growing it out then go for it, I think it looks awesome on short hair! Sorry for typing, toddler on lap.

Meh. Hair grows and, for when you really can't stand it, wigs are only about £25 these days.

I think people divide into two distinct camps where hair's concerned: the Hair Is Your Pride and must always be top-notch bunch, and the It's Only Hair sector. I'm in the latter. The only important thing is to know which side you're on, OP, and make your choice based on that!

teenager experimenting with hairstyles - hmm sort of OK. 33 yr old not a good look sorry. it will look awful growing out as well. I stand accused of being ageist that's fine. I just think there are certain things that look crap on older people and this is one of them (boot strap tee shirts with no bra on on a 60+ yr old is another of them!)
