AIBU?

To think Game should refund (even a voucher for their store) for an item they sold me that doesn't fit the computer I bought it for

Hi

I bought a Controller from GAME which was supposed to be for the WII.

I got it home and found that it doesn't fit the WII or the WII u (box says control for WII Console). DP took it back to the store last Monday (we bought it the Saturday before) and told by the Manager "It has been opened so we can't refund". I don't understand how they can say that they can't refund.

We bought the controller for a WII console that we bought in Game and a lot of other stuff for WII. I wouldn't have picked the control up if the box never had WII on it.

I've Emailed Game and Tweeted them. Email said take it to the store (which won't help as we opened it) and Twitter they ignored me.

AIBU to want a refund for an item that is not fit for the purpose they sold it for even though I opened the box (No wire on show so I had to open the box)

YABU. Unfortunately there are cheeky people who buy extra controllers say, for a friend visiting and then return them. Therefore a blanket ban on doing so.

Also they can't resell something as new when it could well have been used.

Shit for honest people like you but alas, the minority spoil it for the majority.

I forgot to add it was a pre-owned Control that has "FOR use for WII" we bought the console and spent quite a bit in that shop for the WII.

So GAME is allowed to say for Wii when the Wii doesn't have the hole for the control to go in?

YANBU. The item is not fit for purpose. Stand your ground.

Dodeer - I disagree.

If the controller is described as being suitable for a 'Wii', and isn't, you're entitled to a refund under your statutory rights.

Not so if you simply changed your mind.

What Celtic said. An item HAS to be fit for purpose and you are entitled to a full refund.

YANBU, how can they sell a controller that says WII on the box when it's not for the WII Confused?

Sounds like the goods should be returnable under not sold as described rules.

What does it fit then?

Hmm if it's pre owned I think they should have done it out of goodwill really.

Winenot. I got the impression that it just wasn't suitable for her console and she had made a mistake, not that it was faulty advertising. My bad.

I think the fact that you can't returned opened goods should be put aside if the thing is advertised as something it clearly is not.

Have you contacted trading standards?

Is it the classic controller that plugs into the wii remote rather than the console itself?

It doesn't fit in the Controller it is a wired control that apparently fits in the Wii console itself. We don't have the hole for it anywhere on the Wii.

It has a sort of small square end(much smaller then the remote square, )

It doesn't look like an Xbox or PS3 control either. I don'tknow what computer it fits.

I've not contacted Trading Standards. It only cost £9.99 and we only want a refund. DD had saved up for the Wii our of her pocket money.

The control itself looks very simalar to an Xbox/Ps3layout with the trigers and other buttons but the end is not the same.

I was just thinking that, kato - OP, the Wii's normal controller doesn't "fit" into anything, it's wireless.

Does your purchase look like this? Or does it look more similar to this?

If it's the former, that's the Classic controller and won't work unless plugged into one of the latter, which is a Wiimote. The ports for controllers that you see on top of your Wii are for Gamecube controllers, which can only be used with compatible games (they'll say so on the back if they are, most times).

There isn't a panel on the top of the wii that you can flip off, is there?

mum11970 · 25/06/2013 13:06

Madlizzy's right, there is a flip up lid on the wii that fit the controllers with circular ends, they are not supposed to fit in the end of the wii controller.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 25/06/2013 13:22

Is it like this one?

I have one of these, you need it to play (old) Gamecube games on the Wii. It attaches under the panel as mentioned.... but I'm not sure you can use it to play Wii games? It has different buttons.

Could you post a picture of the controller? I'm intruiged. How was it labelled as for Wii if it was preowned, or did the staff inform you verbally?

If the controller has been mislabelled, even if it has been opened then you're entitled to a refund.

If the controller is correct but you are setting it up wrong then its not the retailers fault and they don't have to refund you.

The issue here is which one it is!

I'm with madlizzy, mum11970 and boulevard and think it's the gamecube controller which plugs into the side of the Wii under a flip down panel.

Surely if it was a preowned one it can be repackaged like it was when the original owner sold it to them?

No. It's packaged in a clear box if it's small enough to fit. Wired controllers, hard drives, move controllers etc are too large to fit and so are just given as are.

Very occasionally a preowned item might come in its original packaging, but usually it doesn't (or if it does it's battered beyond belief and so gets repackaged anyway).

hang on it's not a very small square end bit that kind of slopes on one of the corners is it? if it's your first time with a wii it isnt the sensor bar is it? have you got the console up and running?

YoniBottsBumgina · 28/06/2013 00:56

I know the one you're talking about, it's called a "classic controller". (I don't work in Game but a similar store).

It plugs into the end of the normal wii remote controller - so utterly useless if you want to play a two player game but provides a more comfortable controller than turning the wii remote sideways.
