I think I may just have found another. Come on Mumsnetters. Lets send some emails to this ridiculous advert. £25 a week pocket money to do childcare for a 4 year old. £25!

They must value their child so much hmm

Sleepyhoglet Thu 20-Jun-13 18:59:58

Thanks. I sent a response. Are you looking for a slave? I didn't put in a real email though.

IneedAyoniNickname Thu 20-Jun-13 19:00:22

I have less than that to spend on myself per week.after.bills etc. Sounds lovely to me... Not!

Loulybelle Thu 20-Jun-13 19:02:48

25k a week, seriously!!!!

Notgoingto Thu 20-Jun-13 19:02:51

Yeah that sounds awful, especially next. To really fun-sounding ones like this one www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/au-pair-in-france-near-paris-2013-2014/1018686077

Loulybelle Thu 20-Jun-13 19:03:02

25k = 25 quid

I wrote "Do you think this is enough money to do the most important job in the world, caring for a child? Your child deserves the best care, not the best best bargain." I think people love their homes so much, they consider people lucky to get to live with them

coughingbean Thu 20-Jun-13 19:19:24

I read it thinking it sounded lovley.
Then I got to the pay shock

Sleepyhoglet Thu 20-Jun-13 19:23:16

There are some great looking au pair summer jobs. If I wasn't busy this summer already I would certainly apply.

wplum Thu 20-Jun-13 19:23:21

I replied! I feel rather proud of myself now, absolute jokers they are!

WilsonFrickett Thu 20-Jun-13 19:25:47

God, I'd do the French one! obvs DH and DS would miss me, but still

HoneyStepMummy Thu 20-Jun-13 19:39:00

I started the other thread. I didn't realize what a stir it would cause!! I can't believe how many horrible and cheap people are putting ads on Gumtree.
$25 a week!!! Surely it's a typo?? confused Even back in the Middle Ages when I was an au pair no one made that little. I pay a lot more than that for dogsitting, and I'm paying more that that for a teenager to water my plants while I'm gone for a week!! I'm going to email the people. I'll let you know if I get a response.

HoneyStepMummy Thu 20-Jun-13 19:44:46

And for those of you Mnetter's who have a DH here's a double slave position www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/live-in-au-pair-couple-required-to-live-in-jersey-part-of-the-british-isles/1003422740#photo-content where you get to buy your own food. Tossers!

There are some lovely ones.

A really nice family will be in London for the summer and need someone to help them with some light Housekeeping, cooking braekfast and dinner, occasionally supervising their 6 year old and helping with the elderly mother in law. The mother in law is very capable, but needs a little assistance with walking around the home etc...
You will be staying in serviced appartments in Kensington, so the housekeeping load is very little and you will have your own room and bathroom. You must be a willing and cheerful person.

Hours: 12 hours with a break and some occasional babysitting
6 days a week
Salary: £400+ net p/w
Accomodation: Your own room and bathroom in serviced appartments
Start Date: 5th July until 13 September
Interviewing: ASAP

To apply for this position you must have at least 4 years experience in the UK and have a cheerful disposition.

Sleepyhoglet Thu 20-Jun-13 19:50:21

But I suppose I am viewing them from the perspective of holiday job rather than my full time career.

JacqueslePeacock Thu 20-Jun-13 19:52:28

Cromer, the monstrous sexism in that advert upsets me more than the slave labour!

ZenOfPetals Thu 20-Jun-13 19:53:17

That last one is incredible. Not only the slavelike conditions, but the way she has no regard for Internet safety!

JacqueslePeacock Thu 20-Jun-13 19:53:49

Cromer?? I typed "crikey".

Sleepyhoglet Thu 20-Jun-13 19:53:58

Woah honeystep. That's such exploitation.

The pay is £210/week for both of you (not each) but you will have to buy your own food out of this money

JacqueslePeacock Thu 20-Jun-13 19:54:36

Yes, the mass of personal info is a bit odd too

1Veryhungrycaterpillar Thu 20-Jun-13 19:55:07

I didn't like they way they called it it 'Pocket Money' are they seeking to employ a 9 year old?

ZenOfPetals Thu 20-Jun-13 19:56:05

I mean, the Jersey Island one

JacqueslePeacock Thu 20-Jun-13 19:56:44

But I'm most distressed that the "female" has to do the breakfasts and childcare, while the "male" does manly stuff outdoors. He does clean the house, but if he wants his wife to do that instead as well as all her work, that's ok too.
