Regarding Hooters?

DP went out with his friends last week - they travelled 30 miles to a nearby city and spent the day in Hooters. AIBU to think DP is a hypocrite because he'd hate me to work somewhere like that and have men ogle me, yet it's ok for him to go there to ogle the women?

YANBU. Horribly sexist places, Hooters.

1Veryhungrycaterpillar Tue 18-Jun-13 11:17:55

Apparently Hooters have a children's menu so it can't be too risqué there, surely!

GiveMumABreak Tue 18-Jun-13 11:18:26

YANBU!

FutTheShuckUp Tue 18-Jun-13 11:19:24

Oh but they will say it's alllll about watching sport and the ribs of course...not the girls yawn

Sparklymommy Tue 18-Jun-13 11:20:20

A children's menu? At hooters??? Not a place I would want to take my children!!!!! Shocking!!!!

Latara Tue 18-Jun-13 11:20:49

YANBU - sexist and degrading to women (even if the waitresses enjoy their job i still think it's degrading).

1Veryhungrycaterpillar Tue 18-Jun-13 11:21:05

Horrible isn't it Sparkly. Are the women topless?

LittleLisa78 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:22:51

There was no sport on and they didn't eat so...bollocks!

Not to mention the fact his friends consisted of one friend who had an affair last year, one who checks out school girls and one who sneaks out to strip clubs after his wife is asleep. If I went out and with women they had such low/no morals it'd be massively frowned upon.

FreyaSnow Tue 18-Jun-13 11:26:59

Are all his friends like that or are they just people he rarely sees? If he is good friends with somebody who is interested in school children that's pretty worrying.

silverangel Tue 18-Jun-13 11:27:05

Its billed as a 'family restaurant' in the US.

Don't get it myself. No, YANBU!

pinkbear82 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:29:43

I'm not saying it's right - but one night out with dp and some
friends we went into hooters and while the waitress were in hot pants and tight t-shirts there really wasn't much to see! and I was impressed there was a good mix of ladies - not just Barbie types.

as for the men in there - I'm sure some do go just to ogle the females and unfortunately I'm sure some try and push their luck.

yanbu for thinking your Dh wouldn't want men to ogle you or to not want him to be ogling other women - bet if you ask him he'll say he didn't really
notice wink

It is marketed as family friendly and they do have a kids menu. I was at university in Nottingham and went to the Hooters there and it was hugely overrated and the girls were too Katie Price-esque for my liking.

pinkbear82 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:31:22

ooo ok x post! does depend on 'mates' that he goes with..... ignore me!

LittleLisa78 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:34:20

That one is a colleague Freya, rather than a friend, so unavoidable at work but I certainly wouldn't (and don't) socialise with him

PatPig Tue 18-Jun-13 11:36:17

It's not like going to a strip club.

AnyFucker Tue 18-Jun-13 11:40:45

I am sorry to say, love, you running his friends down is just deflecting from the fact that your partner is just like them

HoHoHoNoYouDont Tue 18-Jun-13 11:42:28

It's not like going to a strip club

The only difference is they didn't pay them directly to see their breasts and ogle their naked bodies.

The intention is still the same, to ogle them, whether they be clothed or naked.

HoHoHoNoYouDont Tue 18-Jun-13 11:43:27

I kind of agree with AnyFucker (as usual)

I know you can't always judge someone by the company they keep but it's usually a good indication.

FutTheShuckUp Tue 18-Jun-13 11:43:45

Anyfucker did you intend to come across just as patronising as you did or did you make an asserted effort?

FreyaSnow Tue 18-Jun-13 11:45:20

The OP has said one of them is a work colleague. They might not be good friends; it might just be a one off event.

AnyFucker Tue 18-Jun-13 11:46:19

It comes naturally wink

Like this bloke going along with treating women like objects. Because he wants to, not because he is somehow different to all the other blokes he hangs out with.

FutTheShuckUp Tue 18-Jun-13 11:48:48

I don't disagree with your point but the 'love' was rather holier than thou.

AgathaF Tue 18-Jun-13 11:49:04

It might not be like a strip club but it is objectification of women.

AnyFucker Tue 18-Jun-13 11:51:45

Don't be silly, Fut

I am a Northern lass, look at all my posts and you will see they are littered with "loves".
