to think that they should STFU now?

Next door have been having a little BBQ/party tonight, with lots of kids present. Noisyish all evening, no problem at all.

But it's 10.30pm now, and the kids are shrieking and screaming like banshees, and have been for the last half hour.

AIBU to lean out of the window and tell them to stop bloody shrieking?

I wouldn't mind party noise until much later if its only an occasional event, but I absolutely can't stand shrieking at any time of the day or night, so YANBU.

Yes.

We've got a loud birthday party next door (21 year old I think) with what can only be described as football chanting going on all evening. I'm hoping they'll zip it at 11 (they're normally good like that)

HoHoHoNoYouDont Sat 15-Jun-13 22:38:13

Lean out of the window and scream SHUT THE FUCK UP. grin

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 22:39:00

Oops, too late. blush

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 22:41:48

grin HoHo you don't know how tempted I was!

Now there's only the sound of one child sobbing hysterically through the wall. shock

What have I done!!

Shinyshoes1 Sat 15-Jun-13 22:43:01

YAB a tad U

I'm assuming they don't do this often.

They'll probably quieten down soon anyway if they are littleuns

HollyBerryBush Sat 15-Jun-13 22:44:04

I'm impressed you have weather fit for BBqs

Shinyshoes1 Sat 15-Jun-13 22:44:50

Xpost

The crying hysterically is probably the 'come down ' from lots of running , jumping , squealing, endless fruit juice etc

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 22:48:30

To be fair, I know most of the kids there well and they know that I am utterly unable to tolerate shrieking and screeching under any circumstances. I did tell them that playing = good, just no screeching.

Am feeling a bit blush now - tis silent next door except for the crying.

Music wouldn't have bothered me at all, loud voices not at all. Just overtired hysterical screaming bothers me A LOT.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Sat 15-Jun-13 22:51:44

You haven't done anything wrong - the parents were in the wrong for not stopping the shrieking!! Party noise is fine occasionally, shrieking is not 'fine' any time of day or night, but especially night.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Sat 15-Jun-13 22:52:11

It's still not too late to shout over 'shut the fuck up' grin

AmyFarrahFowlerCooper Sat 15-Jun-13 22:53:26

She has done something wrong though. Should have spoken to the adults rather than screeching at the kids.

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 22:57:32

Chipping I would, but there's no sound except distant sobs, still! shock
I'm in the guilt phase of the anger-guilt cycle that DH observantly points out that I constantly indulge in. He's also pointed out that he can still hear kids playing in the garden, just quietly, and that it's probably one child who fell over or something who's been crying.

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 22:58:29

Sorry Amy, you appear to have got the wrong end of the stick. It was the children screeching, not me.

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 23:01:36

Holly it's been windy and chilly but dry, and they have a nice sheltered pergola thing to sit under, so serviceable BBQ conditions here in the SE.

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 23:03:09

Shiny yes I think it was. It's not the noise I object to, but the high pitched hysteria of the noise.

HollyBerryBush Sat 15-Jun-13 23:04:18

I'm in the SE - I still am in awe you have sun spot!

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 23:12:39

Holly it wouldn't have been a day I'd have chosen for a BBQ, but I guess they'd planned it beforehand so had to press on. It's not much of a summer so far, is it! hmm

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee Sat 15-Jun-13 23:31:35

No, not much of a summer yet.

One little girl (about 4yrs old) in the supermarket was talking to her Mum & her Mum must have said something about it being summer and the little one said 'hmm is it meant to be summer now hmm????????' with that 'who you kiddin' look on her face grin

timidviper Sat 15-Jun-13 23:34:39

Good lord, we have rain and a howling gale here!

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 23:44:49

The wind has dropped and so has the noise - it's silent as the grave next door and I feel dreadfully guilty! I don't mind party noise, just screaming!

I should have just prayed for rain instead; that would have chased them inside.

CrabbyBigBottom Sat 15-Jun-13 23:45:48

grin Chipping. I'm with that little girl!

CrabbyBigBottom Mon 17-Jun-13 19:14:05

As a footnote, I just spoke to one of the children and she says that noone minded me telling them to quieten down, and that the screaming child had fallen over and banged his head.

I can stop feeling guilty now. wink
