to think i have a hummus problem...

I love, worship, adore the stuff. So anything possible in it, bread sticks, cucumber, pitta bread, tomatoes, crisps fingers and peppers.
Thing is dh says I don't dip as such, more shovel.

I buy 4 tubs a week, have it with most meals and snack at night.

So how much it's too much? It's it good for you? Other been avoiding checking the calorie content just in case it's horrendous.

It's fine - reasonably healthy but if you eating that much better to make it yourself - much cheaper and you can use olive oil to make it healthier still.

I love it too! Put it in my salads, in fajitas, on crackers or sandwiches....can you put it on cereal?!?! (Also avoiding calorie count)

Make it yourself, forgo the olive oil and use some water instead.

Cheaper and healthier and in this house we think it tastes the same.

I go through feck loadsa hummous as well. Its full of iron and calcium and other lovelies.

Gives you garlic breath though.

I get about three tubs a week myself. I love it in toast or bagels. I don't think it's bad for you.

I like to think if I went to some kind of prison and was told "all you can eat for the rest of your life is humours" I wouldnt mind a bit!

No don't miss out the olive oil! It's a healthy fat and will help you feel satisfied. And the homous won't be at nice with water.

Be aware of how much you eat. You need to keep your sense of hummus.

Hummus is so delicious... I love it on toast :D and any sort of vegetable. However I don't approve of the fancy different flavoured varieties...

YABU only from the fact you buy it, roasted red pepper is my favourite, and home bargains sell hooge big jars of them for 79p, they have a much better flavour than roasting them yourself

Can't eat it :( Am hideously antisocial after contact with legumes, chickpeas particularly. Utterly delicious, and yes, quite calorific.

Agree that olive oil is not necessary when you make our own with chickpeas, water, tahini, lemon juice, coriander and garlic. Lovely, and the olve oil doesn't add that much to the experience.

Olive oil is good for you - you need 'good' fat.

Costco do lovely big vats tubs of it - devine.

Are you my DS? He literally does shovel. Breadsticks are carefully moved out of the way for extra houmous with his houmous.

He's not yet 2 though and basically hates vegetables, so I'm rolling with it!

I agree with everyone who's advising to make your own. Much cheaper and healthier (the ones in supermarkets have too much salt in them). You can get tahini paste almost everywhere now.

It's all about Sabra hummus. Yes it's more expensive but means I eat less of it.

My home made stuff tastes bugger all like it unfortunately.

I'm with you OP - I bloody love the stuff. Recently made some of my own and was horrified on the first batch just exactly how much oil it sucked up. Tried again and used plain yoghurt instead of oil and it was bloody lovely. I always roast the garlic first as well otherwise I find it tastes a little harsh.

I love it too my own, waitrose or tescos is the best not keen on flavoured ones

I used to eat it for breakfast often lunch and dinner too but went off it when I was pregnant

It is high in fat but so delicious and better for you than some other dips

Its not particularly healthy in large quantities, but it is lovely!

I keep meaning to make my own too, but the temptation for the extra garlic and red pepper one in the supermarket is just too much!
