What is so scary about them.

They make the most amazing webs and these webs catch flys.

Where I come from, you kill them, or they kill you.

Nuff said.

What's so scary about heights? Or going on a plane? Or fish? Or bubble wrap? You could say it about anything people are scared of. Buuuuuut for me its the legs and the speed and the running up your arm if you try to scoop and throw.

Because they have long scary legs and run too fast! Am trying my best not to kill them these days, and have even been known to catch them in glasses, but have also bashed a few of the really massive ones!

I remember being quite saddened years ago when I came home after a weekend away and my housemate had killed the two massive spiders that lived in our lounge.

I don't kill them ever but I am scared of them.
Feckers are poisonous where I come from.

I never kill spiders. I'm terrified of them but I've got quite good at holding a pint glass and postcard at arms length and evicting them to the garden although I did get DH to deal with the one that was bigger than said pint glass

My gran used to tell me if you killed a spider, you'd make it rain

I know they're really interesting, understand they can't hurt me, and don't think we should kill anything for no reason. But when I see one, that all goes out the window and I freak out and kill it Blush

I used to be able to pick them up and take them outside, but have had a (completely irrational, I know) fear of them ever since my bastard ex used to pretend to flick massive ones onto me (his house was full of them).

YANBU Spiders are friends and I think to kill one is unforgivable Smile

No, I never kill spiders or any creatures. But I do kill patches of nettles in the garden as they are worse than a wasp sting.

I agree about the beautiful webs spun by the spiders.

I got bitten by a spider once (in the UK). So now they're fair game, the many-legged fuckers.

spiders are really amazing creatures and even though they scare the heck out of me I would never kill them. fortunatly I have a brave sister

Neither did I until it happened, McNewPants. But since sharing my trauma I have heard similar tales from others, so it definitely happens. I had to take Piriton to stop the swelling!

I used to be petrified of spiders, but would never kills one (Everyone knows if you kill a spider you will make it rain). I then got a job working with them (indirectly) so got used to them being around. I am now absolutely fascinated by them and am thinking about getting a tarantula as a pet. Which if you knew how scared i was before is a massive turn around. I have three tube web spiders living over my back door - they are fab, non indiginous species that have come over on the boats, they have green fangs if you shine a torch on them - they bite though, so i leave them where they are.

The key for me is when i see a huge house spider that is making me uncomfortable is to give it a name, that way they aren't so scary. DD sits and talks to them. I was playing with a massive house spider the other day (i had called him gary) wiht a bit of long stick, he was chasing it round the wall Grin

Well done LEM. I had one huge spiders web which was perfect out the garden until DH brushed it down.

Terrified of them but I'd never kill anythingwithout a valid reason. Life is precious.

McNewpants - all spiders bite - just to differing degrees, those house spiders can give a nasty bite, apparently the tube webs are fairly venemous and can give a really nasty bite too.

I hate spiders...but would rather they were scooped up and put outside. I will only kill one if it ambushes me by surprise and I panic.

I used to love spiders but when I was about 8 I fell into a bush. Inside the bush was a newly hatched spider egg ball thingy. Basically a ball of thousands of tiny orange spiders. It cracked open and I got covered in them, literally COVERED....it totally freaked the shit out of me and they make my skin crawl ever since...too many legs....nasty creepy things.

I don't like killing them though.

Sorry, but if I see one in the house it has to die, or it will come and get me later. The only thing worse than seeing a spider in the house is seeing it run and hide so I can;t kill it.
I know it;s irrational, but they make me vomit with terror.

Chivetalking · 26/05/2013 21:16

I don't like them but I don't kill them partly because I don't want to and partly because it'd make a mess I'd have to clear up.

I keep an old margarine tub to hand. The dimwitted feckers always try and climb it so they're easily caught Grin then tipped out of the window.

I hate spiders but I do not kill anything. I get someone to take them outside for me. I think it's horrible to kill anything other than fleas and nits Grin

My friend had one lay eggs in her ear once.

I thought it was impossible/ old wives tale but it was true!

Then I saw on a super old episode of casualty a few years back moths do the same thing

I then developed a phobia of tthings crawling in all holes/ crevices and am legitimately TERRIFIED

I have not hung clothes.on the washing line since spidergate 2007

I had to buy a tumble drier and use it all summer too
