to want to be a size six ?

i am pretty petite (five 2 and "small boned" ) if i was taller, even just a couple more inches i would be more than happy being a 10 - 12 as proportionally i would still look very slim. but i am a shortarse little and every extra Lb shows :/

and would probably only need to lose 5 - 10lbs to get to this size (am currently 8 stone 2, and a dress size 8 - 10 )

i have been a size 6 before in my teens and early 20s and after i had dc1 and became single and basically couldn't afford to eat and felt great at that size, like i could wear anything

i just think very slim women look great in anything envy ....and thats just MY opinion btw so i dont want to offend anyone

Why do you feel the need to justify wanting to lose weight?

cos RL friends think i am mad for wanting to be a bit slimmer and kind of make me feel bad if i ever mention it, and then i do feel bad, as my closest friends are all bigger than me (size 12 plus) and then i feel bad, in case they think i think they are fat iyswim - which i absolutely DON'T, i just want to look a certain way which would make me happier

I'm a size 6 and it is a fucking nightmare to buy clothes, especially jeans, shirts and jackets.

I get asked for ID everywhere I go, which is gratifying for a bit, but I'm 30 FFS.

I have to listen to people's comments about being scrawny/skinny/need to eat more/lucky skinny bitch/blah blah blah ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

I am happy with my weight, but it's not THAT great being slim.

If you're healthy, and happy at a size 6, then by all means go for it, but listen to your body, it'll tell you when you're at your "natural" weight.

I'd like to be a size 8, but I've got 4 and a half stone to lose to get there, and I'm 5 foot 2, so it's a distant dream at the moment! grin

Why do you feel the need to justify wanting to lose weight? I think everyone has a size they want to be, whether that means losing weight, gaining weight or staying the same? It is only unreasonable if you want to reach a weight that is not healthy for your body, for example the current thigh gap obsession (I just want mine to stop making clapping noises when I walk), or the woman who is intentionally trying to become the fattest woman in the world.

Thanks peteypiranha, I can actually see the shape of the bones at the top of her arms and all down her backbone. She is about eight inches wide top to bottom. She has no boobs and no hips, she is bruising and is absolutely freezing. I have tried to tell her she is starving herself but she insist she is eating "loads".

actually I am more like a 10/12 for sure right now (also 5'2, small boned) - just realised my trousers currently wearing and not at all tight, are gap size uk 6 *hahaa

so with all this vanitysizing around, it's a real pain to be actually tiny. when I was smaller, I once had to buy children's clothes . stay an 8, OP, you sound lovely

I wouldn't bother if I were you. The only time I was a size 6, I was anorexic, got rude comments to 'eat more' by randoms in the street and found it difficult to find clothes to fit!

If you are healthy & happy at a size 6, then do it, but I think it would be quite unusual unless you are REALLY tiny boned (like some Japanese women, for example).

I am size 8-10 now & also 5ft2, small boned. I am slim, but yes I do have a little more tummy now & slightly wider hips than pre-children - I think its natural.

On the other hand, you could just forget the diet or whatever & buy all your clothes in Next. Apparently their 6 is massive!

Tarka - but that's my point; don't go thinking I'm some svelte 5'10" size 8-er. grin I'm not. I fit a size 8-12, depending on how ludicrously vanity-sized that shop runs its clothes!

In reality, I'm a comfortable size 12, and as I say, not skinny. I'd love to lose another 5 kilos (which isn't much and would still leave me with excess weight) to get down to what I feel would be a nice, slim, ideal weight but my body just doesn't seem to want to go below what I am right now.

But someone who is 8 inches shorter than me? I don't see a size 6 as unreasonable at all.

because it is. You are already tiny. Just get fitter, if it bothers you that much, which it really shouldn't.

(yes, I've been a size 6, I've been smaller than that, I've been bigger than that, whatever). I look so, so much better when I'm a size 10 (^the horror!^)and I feel better too, much more energy. I can also buy clothes a lot easier that actually fit me.

just eat healthily, do regular activity, eat cake sometimes. live a little bit and see what your body thinks is a sensible weight. *I realise few here will agree

I'm 5'9" and size 8-10, to be honest my top half is scrawny (pregnancy+bf etc the second baby has destroyed my previously big and pert gorgeous lovely boobs sad) but I still have major love handles going on and wobbly thighs - despite always having had slim legs before now.

I have no idea what my natural weight/size is - at uni I got up to 12.5stone and was a size 14 and started to look fat at that point but I think people always thought I was thinner than I was at size 12 becuase my face is the last place I put on weight - I had a protruding collarbone at a size 14 (probably why now at size 8 my chest looks scrawny). But I actually exercise now, eat better, haven't drunk much in the last few weeks...at what point do you class yourself at your natural weight/size? Exercising moderately, eating moderately, allowing yourself a bottle or three of wine a week? Or clean eating, gym going, weight training etc?

I live in USA at the moment - just bought GAP yoga trousers in a size 2...no wonder so many people in this country are morbidly obese with the industry lying so much!

Also, I'd argue the size zero thing has been around a long time now - when I was early teens (15-18 years ago) celebrities were constantly in Heat or whatever at a size 0, Portia de Rossi was the biggest calamity I remember, and Kate Moss hitting the big time (she was, what 14? and she's a good 5 years older than me) and skinny-heroin chic was all the rage. I think it's actually gone more "be thin but look healthy" in recent years

My wedding dress is a size 6 and I'm now 10 years down the line with DC and a size 8 and feel I look better in a bigger size.

I agree some shops are silly in size, river island I'm still a size 6 no way

I have a bum but no Norks really and I'm around 5ft 8"

I still wobble in places that I'm not confident with but that is lack of exercise.

Reindeerbollocks that's the point I think, everyone is different and everyone has their own natural size where in=out and no hardcore dieting required, whatever weight that may be. To be so hung up on a dress size like the OP, or weight like some others is daft - only a very few "lucky" people are naturally slim with big boobs, small waists, flat tummies and pert bums all the rest of us have to just accept what nature's given us and get on with it.

I am a size six and weig about six and a half stones (recently weighed 42kgs, whatever that is).

I have boobs (28E-F) and hips and am a curvy but small woman. I take offence at this skin and bone shite. I am not just a bag of bones and I DO eat. I need to tone muscle, that would make me healthier, but my female line were all of the small but curvy gene pool. My mum was the same, as was my grandmother.

You can't see ribs although you can see hips bones, which has become more prominent since childbirth.

At what point do you go from being slim, 5'4 and size 4, to be suffering from malnutition. Friend eats nothing all day and then might have cuppa soup and an egg sandwich at night. Anyone on here who is a size 4/6, do your bones protrude?

For me it's not all about weight any more, I gave that up in my 20s - I am 5' 2" and my "natural" body weight (ie not having to constantly restrict my eating) is 11 & 1/2 stone. I am a large size 10/small 12 at that weight, hourglass with flat tummy.

Although I weigh loads more than I "should", I am much smaller than others who weigh less than me - this is due to an active job and regularly doing interval training at the gym.

I really wish women would stop being so hung up about weight/dress size all the time - if you are healthy, active and fit then your body will find a "natural" weight, be it 8 stone or 12 stone.

Oh come on we all know the size zero look is currently expected of women in the public eye. You can't possibly argue that most of them are naturally thin - it is well documented that they have to eat (or not) a certain way to look the way they do and have special exercise programmes. I don't know if anyone remembers Louise Nurding doing an experiment to reach a size zero and how she said it would be impossible to maintain living normally.

I'm a size 8 but have found a very easy way to become a 6 when I want to - walk through the door at Dorothy Perkins, Queen of Vanity Sizing. Totally painless, no diet or exercise required. Magic! grin

Depends which celebs you mean though, I can think of loads who are no more than five feet tall - so weighing very little (comparatively) could still be healthy.

Yes, I know some people are naturally under 8 stone of course, but most aren't. I'm talking really about the celebs who are say 6 stone 11, not 7 stone 11 and people starting to think they ought to be like that too.

I don't think many people should weigh less than 8 stone really and certainly not under 7.5 stone - it's not good for your bones. I spent some time being a size 6 when I was ill and ate literally nothing and spent all my time walking around

Some people are naturally under 8 stone. Before I had a baby I weighed 7 stone 11, entirely normal for me. And yes I ate.
