AIBU?

to think I can be in my 40s and ride a scooter (like kids ones but built for adults) and they can all 'do one?'

Nope!

but why not? Seriously! It is an easy method of transport for short journeys. My children ride theirs. I'm not allowed to cycle on the pavement. I just do not understand the flabbergasted reactions!

Of course you can. You'll look silly, but if you don't mind that then good luck to you.

You might not look quite as silly as the grown man I saw skateboarding (badly) down the street yesterday.

DH has started using DD1's scooter for short trips.

He loves it.

He is mid 40s.

Why not, I'm 45. I trampoline, go on swings and a sneak down slides when no ones noticing, I love water chutes and wave pools and roller coasters. If my DDS scooted I would too.

Dh and I had a wonderful time riding the dc's scooters between Boscombe and Bournemouth beach front in the off season - added bonus was we embarrassed the children.

Mind you it it is a fair bit of exercise

seriously those who would like one. I think you should go for it. I love it. So much more fun than walking, sits in the hallway... and actually let's not bother what others think! The fact that I haven't been bombarded with shame is a scootering inspiration! Mine was just over £50, adult proof and great! x And non- believers, ha,ha,ha to you

Why not? I get funny looks for joining in on the kids stuff but I don't care, kids shouldn't be allowed to have all the fun!

Go ride about on your scooter, if anyone calls you just send em my way! Grin

I think one leg is slightly fitter than the other, but that is cos I can be a bit uncordinated. Seriously though, if you have no room for a bike, scooting is brilliant! Come on, let's not be told which toys are the grown up ones!

noisy ewww no! Those parents on the school run get my goat every time. They have this breezy, insouciant air as they whiz past, but I always think, "trying too hard. Yes, yes we get it, you are fun and zany, but FFS, reel it in"

My dh often scoots with our son and sometimes on his own. I see an adult commuting by scooter roughly once a month on London. I don't see why not.

amrap, that made me laugh, but really I'm not trying hard enough apparently. I know what you mean, but i hope i'm not guilty

DH got one for himself after our older boys started scooting. He goes out for rides with them.

Yes he looks silly but he doesn't care - and maybe I'm just jealous because I now find all sorts of things I loved when I was a kid like swings and scooting now make me feel light headed.

This company makes scooters for adults:

Looks like they are based on the scooters the Amish use in the USA
