playdate gone bad -

My DS had a playdate with his best friend from school. The mum was cool about the fact that my DH will pick and drop him after playdate around 6.30. However, a mutual friend came over to ours in between and she offered to drop him when going home. I texted playdate mom explaining this and that if it is OK (she replied OK). Now this friend got delayed etc (her youngest child got sick in the car) and eventually dropped the playdate child at 9pm. The playdate mom got really really angry at this and when we tried to apologies in school, she was quiet rude etc. Other details are that the son really had a good time at our house was very happy and playful. Although I do agree that he got a bit upset around 7, as he was getting a bit tired. Is this our fault?
