AIBU?

to be jealous of DH?

So, this morning we went to the beach, just to play in the sand, very much a last-minute idea.

Just as we're packing up DS's bucket and spade and random crap DH pipes up with, "do you know where my togs are?"

AIBU to be jealous that he can just jump into his swimmers straight from winter whereas I'd have to spend at least 2 hours de-hairing? (Or 3 days in advance of bikini-wearing as I go very red for days after).

So, there I sat, jeans and a t-shirt, feeling like an absolute idiot, "DH, can you go with DS to get a bucket of water? I'll get my jeans wet".

Last night I had a dream where I was wandering about with my yeti-legs and no one battered an eyelash. Mind you, naked DH was also there with a crocodile, so I can't rely on them.

AIBU?

(Or Should I be posting in S&B or Feminism?)

Just keep your legs shaved if that's how you feel...it's not really a S&B or Feminism thing - it's a you thing.

I'm jealous you live so near to a beach though Envy

really Hmm

So why does your husband not spend two hours de-hairing?

I go in the sea most days, It's never occurred to me that body hair could prevent me doing so, the only thing limiting your spontaneity is your thinking.

What's the worst that would happen if you did the same as your husband?

Who the hell would notice hairy legs on a beach? I have never paid a blind bit of attention to anyone else on a beach.

2 hours de-hairing? how so? you drag a razor over and it's done in 30 seconds.

I'm more likely to notice a badly fake tanned orange person than someone with hairy legs.

If your bathing suit/bikini is the right size, and you're laughing and splashing about with your children, you MAY catch my eye, but it won't be looking at the hairiness of your legs it will be me thinking "Wow I wish I could have the confidence to just enjoy myself like her". Then I'd probably heave my blubbery body to the shoreline and start having fun with my kids too, and try not to worry about someone from Greenpeace trying to push me further out to sea.

Why don't you jus shave your legs generally, and 2 hours?! What are you? Worst case scenario you whack some veet on for 10 minutes, shower off and then your done.

2 hours shaving? Wow. Are you a yeti?
Invest in some swim shorts. Fab things. No need to care about the bikini line and the rash.

I have very pale skin with very thick, black, nasty hair that leaves me with a godawful rash and in-growing hairs.

2 hours would be: legs ankle-to-... well, muff! Which grows down to meet upper-thigh hair in its own affectionate way, like long-lost lovers!

On the beach I noticed my hairy toes were a bit carpety, too.

Bollocks Sad

I am more jealous of it being warm enough to go to the beach! It's freezing here!

All the more reason to keep them shaved over the winter.

It takes a couple of minutes as part of a bath/shower routine.

TMI Grin

Although I'm perplexed at people who don't wave the razor round every day in the shower.

Veet. Wax. Electric razor. Regular maintenance.

The thing that amazed me most about the op is why a grown man wouldn't know where his clothes are. And why he thinks you would know.

Yanbu. It's how you feel. But for what it's worth I don't look at other women on the beach to see how hairy they are and I wouldn't judge if I did catch a glimpse.

Even if they did, so what, you'll never see them again. Shave if you want, dont if you don't but if you want to go in the water get yourself in!

S&B would be good if you want tips on grooming yourself like this.
Fem is good if you want to dicuss how you feel about feeling like you need to groom before you uncover yourself.

I'm a big girl - i don't have problems with my body shape - although i got flamed to within and inch of my life on here for claiming that. I have been known to strip down to my bra and pants and jump in the sea with DD (i tend to wear Bridget jones type pants anyway). So not only do i offend people with my blubber I probably scare them with my flowing hairs on my legs (which to be fair are blonde but i never really give it a second thought) Why should i modify what I do just to fit into a stereotype - just enjoy your life. Don't get me wrong, i do shave my legs but not unless its skirt/short wearing weather - There are often days where the sun catches us be surprise, why should i not go in the sea because of a bit of hair on my legs?

I think it might the suggestion that anyone who doesn't feel as comfortable as you do on this matter is not 'a big girl' might be what gets you the flaming.

I notice if people shave or not. I don't care if they do or not generally but I do notice.

Yanbu. I've the same problem - pale skin with thick black fur everywhere (feet, nipples, leg hair that joins my pubic hair with night discernible difference). There's no way on earth I'd strip off for anyone unless I'd shaved that morning. I'm sure that all of you incredibly lucky ladies who would strip off without thinking are blessed with minimal/blonde hair.

Can someone tell me the worst that could happen? So I can be prepared.

Do you mean that you're a big girl as in a) grown up about it or b) a larger size?

I also wish body hair was a thing of the past (apart from on head, eyebrows, lashes and muff within reason)

You will be shunned by polite society. That'll learn ya.

If you have pale skin and dark hair and enough money you are ideal for laser hair removal. I got my treasure trail done many years ago and once every couple of years I remember how annoyed I used to get with it and it's just so nice not to have to think about it any more.
