I'm.not being a cow am I?

YANBU
Have you thought of renaming your homehub to send her a message?
BogOffAndGetYourOwnBroadband might be a good starting name.

YANBU There are all sorts of reasons not to want to share a wi-fi connection.....(especially with someone who is demanding it). Keep being polite but firm.

If you share your WiFi with her, it'll be your IP address that all their web surfing is registered against. So if they download dodgy shit or surf nasty porn it'll be your door the police will come knocking on.

Tell her to fuck off.

YANBU and have every right to decline. Hold firm.

Wot Freddie said. Not on your nelly would someone else be using our wifi, for that very reason. You'll be the one getting the 'cease and desist' letter from the film companies when they're downloading pirate copies of films. Or worse.

glad I'm not bu, I agree with all sorts of dodgy download being under my name. felt like I was being highly unreasonable though when she kept on.

If she can afford to pay you for it then she can afford a prepaid mobile internet dongle.

DeepRedBetty · 08/05/2013 09:49

No, you're not a cow. Your neighbour's lodger is breathtakingly arrogant.

Report
fuzzywuzzy · 08/05/2013 09:49

Wow people are entitled arent they?

No do not give her your WiFi password, you as the subscriber will be held liable for going over your download limit, all activity related to your broadband. So nope I wouldn't do it.

Broadbands pretty cheap nowadays, why is she insistent on using yours?

No. You are not being unreasonable.

If she'd told me to stop being silly she'd have had a face full of front door!

YANBU, what a cheek!

YANBU - cheeky cow. Your service provider will probably have a clause in your contract about protecting wireless access, if that helps fob her off.

Report
ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 08/05/2013 09:51

and change your wireless name to fuckoffandbuyyourownwifi

You are so NOT BU. The cheek of some people... although I do wonder if the neighbour has said something along the lines of 'no, we don't have wifi but I'm sure you can use next doors?'. (But that may be clutching at straws as I can't imagine ever going next door and demanding use of their phone, electricity, wi-fi, water - you know, the stuff they pay for.)

like what fuzzywuzzy mentioned tell her you only have a small download limit, explain that you don't know her and its a security risk to you to share your wifi. also just tell her to not be so cheeky!! I wouldn't let anyone do this. she can get mobile broadband!!

Report
weisswusrt · 08/05/2013 09:54

Tell her you have a small download limit and that you get huge fines for crossing it.

Report
LibertineLover · 08/05/2013 09:55

Never fails to amaze me the cheek of some people?!

If she comes back, just say...Oh I thought I said no? NO!

Report
SofaKing · 08/05/2013 09:56

Don't do it! My niece lived across the road and we let her use our wifi. She used it to download so many things we couldn't browse the internet without it slowing to a crawl, and then had a go at us because she could only access it from her kitchen.

I get along with her much better now she's moved!

is possible the neighbour suggesting us but I doubt it we speak occasionally but are not friends. I actually think a dongle would be cheaper than paying towards WiFi. seems dodgy, felt like a right nob i hate when people don't get the message makes things so awkward.

Of course you're not being unreasonable, she's a cheeky mare.

SarahAndFuck · 08/05/2013 09:58

Don't make any excuses as to why not, no is a good enough answer on it's own.

Let your neighbour know what her lodger has asked of you and tell her that you don't want to be bothered by her again.

If she wants wifi she needs to take it up with your neighbour/her landlady.

It's not your problem, you don't have to provide the world with wifi, which she wouldn't actually pay you anything for once she got the code, and who knows who else she might share it with.

And yes, change your wifi name to something rude or something she won't recognise as yours.

Report
StuntGirl · 08/05/2013 09:58

You don't even need to give her any of these silly reasons either. Yes they're all true, but all you have to say is "No".

If someone is that cheeky that they don't have any problem asking (especially in such a way!) then they shouldn't have a problem with being told no.

YANBU, I'd tell her to do one for all the reasons listed here.
