Makes my blood boil to think that this sort of thing still goes on, but it does. One of my friends daughters has downs and was recently asked to leave a well known cinema.. and a family members little boy has a condition I don't even know the name of (his oesaphagus doesn't go all the way to his stomach) along with downs and he has a hole in his heart and a couple of other issues, they were asked to leave Frankie and Bennys restaurant because their son (who is 3!) was putting the other diners off their food. Both times complaints were made and both times the managers sided against the families involved. Arseholes! Needless to say we don't use either company anymore.

God, there are some fuckers about sad

God, people are obnoxious and ignorant. There are some people who will target any person they view as an easy target for abuse, just for the sake of abusing someone. I don't get it. I'm often shocked when reading these threads by the bullying, rudeness and interference that disabled people and their carers routinely receive when just going about their daily lives in publicangry

Hope all these rude fuckers one day pick on the wrong person and get the response they deserve. I can't say what I think is deserved because it'll be deleted for having violent wishes toward nasty bullies.

I find it so shocking that someone felt they could verbally abuse you like that. sad

I was at the London Dungeon last week with dh,dd and ds who has severe learning difficulties / asd - he was in his special needs buggy.
I had contacted the dungeon before hand to make sure it would be classed as a mobility aid / wheelchair and so that we would have assistance as required. Having checked the access policy on the website I knew we would need to bypass the boat ride and need to use a lift at some point.

Despite the good planning and confirmation that the duty manager would be aware of our visit and having a pre arranged time to visit it was a disaster. The boat ride operator just ignored me and when I asked for help pointed to ds in his buggy and said "can't he walk, can't you fold the pushchair?" I then "educated" her and pointed out it was a special needs buggy and that we had pre booked wheelchair assistance. This was met with rolling of eyes to her college and she grudgingly got me help. At other point we were left waiting for someone to oporate the lift and no one came and later left to re join our group from the lift in total darkness.

On return home I emailled the manager and have received a huge appology - we are going again in June and the manager is taking us round and promised is a few freebies! (merlin passholders so don't need to pay again to get in)
They are investigating what went wrong on the day of our visit and "training" is to be given.

There are some very ignorant people about!

I'm glad the manager got back quickly and apologised. The lack of common sense or decency in some folks who work with the general public (ie are paid to interact with clients) never ceases to amaze me.

Do you know what, the sn thing is not that relevant. How dare anyone tell yoi off for having a big buggy full stop. Obviously the sn issue necessitates it rather than by choice, buy even so. I'd lile to hope they are sitting feeling suitably mortified but I suspect if they have the audacity to even comment, they pribably are a selfiah git who has no conscience anyway. sorry for you and dc. brew & thanks & choc bar or leftover easter egg

Sorry you had to put up with this ignorant rudeness. We have used ours many times in London and generally been ok, looks but no verbal abuse. Several times I have been surprised by people eager to help us up stairs etc. Other times flabbergasted by clearly healthy mobile young people taking lifts over stairs and making us wait. ( waiting does not go down well with ds). don't give up though, some people would like people like us to stay indoors and never show our faces I public. They can't be allowed to win.

I've seen a few of those buggies around. They are distinctive.
My kids still cadged lifts in regular pushchairs up until nearly 7yo, nobody said anything that bothered me.
Sometimes I think I must be very scary. wink
Sorry you had a bad time, OP.
