AIBU?

to think you need designer shoes before you call yourself shoe obsessed?

(not sure if I've worded it right)

My friend constantly boasts about her huge shoe collection. Boasting 100+ pairs - writing blogs about it too.

Saw it today (exciting times I know) and these 100 pairs consist of a majority of Primark shoes, flip flops, etc

Aibu to think if you were shoe obsessed and consider yourself an expert you would be wearing Jimmy Choo, Louboutins, Manolo's etc.

YABU. 100 pairs is quite obsessive. Not sure there is a rule book anywhere that states they must be designer.

Why do you care?

YABU and and a snob.

She can't like shoes because she buys them in Primark? Hmm

No, that makes you designer shoe obsessed. You can be shoe obsessed with Primarni shoes.

I would say anyone who owns 100+ pairs of shoes is shoe obsessed, regardless of where they come from. I am a bit Jeans obsessed I suppose, prob have over 50 pairs.....I don't think it matters where they come from.

YABU!

I think you need therapy if you call yourself shoe obsessed.
And that is coming from someone with Louboutins and flips flops and primark ballet pumps

You sound a bit of a snobby twat tbh.

Hmm. I take the snobby comment, but do you really have to sink so low as to call someone a twat.

Very aggressive and uncalled for.

YABU. Does your rule apply for all obsessions? So I can only like cars if I drive a Ferrari.
I can only like fashion if I am dressed head to toe in Chanel?
I can only like planes if I have a private jet?
I can only like food if I eat at Michelin starred restaurants every night?

I don't know, I'd say critiquing your friends interests is a bit aggressive and uncalled for. And twatty.

ok, I'm being unreasonable Smile

I think it's just from reading her blog - (which she constantly keeps sending me) and keeps updating on Facebook. That hmm I guess you'd have to read to understand what I mean.

But over all in general yes I am being unreasonable.

And no it's not a term of endearment TSC you said it to belittle me and get a cheap laugh.

Calling someone a twat isn't very becoming.

YABU

100 pairs of shoes is very OTT - expensive or otherwise. They clearly give your friend a great deal of pleasure though.

I have 1 pair of flat shoes that I wear pretty much all the time, 1 pair of wellies, 1 pair of running trainers, 1 pair of indoor aerobics trainers, 1 pair of heeled ankle boots, 1 pair of walking boots, 1 pair of laced pumps, 1 pair navy court shoes, 1 pair black court shoes, 1 pair of dress shoes, 1 pair wedges, 1 pair of fit flops. 12 pairs!

Indeed, NewStart. Ignore the name-calling. She (can't be bothered to look for her name) sounds nasty.

I think you can be shoe-obsessed at any income-level, IYKWIM. I think anyone who blogs about 100+ shoes sounds strange and superficial, whether its Primark or Manola. Is she really your friendHmm?!

I'm with you OP

You shouldn't boast about something, unless it's actually worth boasting about. Writing a blog about your shoe collection is boasting in my book.

Having 100 pairs of Primark shoes is not something to boast about!

Your friend sounds like she needs help.

That's like saying someone can only call themselves a bibliophile if they have a first edition of War and Peace.

Shoes might not be a status symbol to your friend, she might simply love the way they make her feel.

I think I just didn't explain myself well in the OP - which is probably why I have come across as snobby.

I agree though - I am being unreasonable to apply it in general to everyone.

I just don't think anyone needs to lower themselves on here to start name calling people.

Not at all. I wouldn't even consider posting a link to it.
