To feel a bit sorry for Justine MN?

When asked in the future 'Where were you when you heard Margaret Thatcher had died' she will have to say 'defending Mumsnet on Radio 2 due to some furore regarding Amanda Holden and a year old thread'.

Sad

i'm sorry Sparkling, but that made me laugh.

where were you when Maggie died?
defending something that's been a force for good as opposed to trying to kill the country from the inside.

I think J can handle that. Didn't hear her on R2 but that whole AH thing is bogus anyway, it's plainly the DM response to the Philpott thread. Nothing to see here, move along etc.

If you didn't hear her try and have a listen. She was very good. But it was just as the story broke.

just listening now.

bad wording in the news bulletin following though
her spokesman said "it was with great sadness that LT dies peacefully after a stroke"

it really makes it sound like the sad part was the peacefully bit.
I didn't like the woman, but I wouldn't be sad at that.

Ok, listened to the Justine bit.

I thought she was absolutely brilliant. I wish she'd see this but I doubt she will. Anyway. I loved how she put it - that women have different opinions and this is fine. She didn't rise to the other woman constantly implying that there is something wrong with women disagreeing, she kept explaining the positives. She didn't accept that disagreement or anger were negative.

I feel very grateful.

Thanks

We listen to Radio 2 at work. Was HIGHLY impressed with Justine. Thought she was absolutely brilliant.

I think women on mumsnet will never be forgiven by the media for actually daring to have opinions on absolutely everything and daring to disagree and enjoy cut and thrust debate.

We can do breast feeding, politics, parking threads and take in Amanda Holden all in one go.

It reminds me of the old harry Enfield sketches 'women know your place'.

Yep, I agree thebody.

The woman who spoke against Justine (I didn't get her name) kept using 'angry' as if it was a dirty word - how dare 'mothers' be angry? Hmm

It was Christine odone. Whole discussion was short perhaps cos Maggie died and they needed to fit that in

Justine was so much more eloquent than Christine Odone, who just seemed to be stuck on a record.
And I loved the supportive calls particularly the poster with the MH issues that had visitors in hospital from two MNers.
I think I know who they were but won't name them in case I'm wrong.
I also loved the call from the defender of Cherry Menlove.
That thread was funny, do you think it was her?
Pity Thatcher died as MN were way ahead on points.
Typical. Grin

It was a shame it was on the Radio as I like to see how Justine has her hair. She was on ITN News the other week and she had very nice hair.

The poster with the MH issues was fucking amazing. You could tell she was a brilliant woman.

I would be amused if the poster was Cherry Menlove - what is s/he?!

Poster? Speaker even. I'm not used to radio.

Oh my god, listening to that did turn me into one of Christina Odone's stereotypical angry mumsnetters. She was talking utter codswallop and was eloquently rebutted by Justine. Women do not speak with one voice. Mothers do not speak with one voice. Grrr.
Re. Amanda Holden, I feel a bit sorry for her in that she was shown the thread by a journalist. I've been slagged off loads of times on MN (am writer) and I just don't read the threads and I don't engage with them and I certainly don't criticise anybody. I would never go on in my name or a false name to defend myself. I ignore and that's fine. However I have had times when people have rather unhelpfully directed my attention to threads ('oo have you seen, there's a right old slagging off of you going on' - usually by employers for whom it's all good). I then find myself opening the Pandora's box and being a bit depressed. However, I accept that it's part of the price to pay for putting yourself out there.

I wonder if she has had lots of media training? She was so calm. Which made the other woman look even rantier.

how many people posted on the thread?
how many mumsnetters are there?
how many people posted negatively?
how many people positively?
how many people posted both negatively and positively?

on average was it fair that all 'mumsnetters' get get called angry or whatever else A Holden, C Odone says Confused could we please have statistics in place and probabilities because without them I am not sure how anyone can make a decision on this matter.

and if this has NOTHING to do with creating a media storm prior to BGT I will eat my hat!
