AIBU?

To think LoveFilm is utterly crap - or am I doing something wrong?

I've just signed up for a free trial, then £4.99 per month thereafter. I figured if it was no good I could easily cancel the subscription. Well... I don't get it. The films are largely old or crap (Jerry Maguire? Phone booth???) and the series' are only marginally better. Actually, they have Prison Break so that will keep me going for a while.

Just not impressed really. Anyone else think this or am I expecting too much for a fiver a month?

Well, I thought that too, before I found the TV section. The films are not great on the streaming service, as you say old and obscure frankly with a couple of new ones thrown in for advertising as far as I can see. But, I love the box sets on the tv bit. I have caught up with so much stuff that I missed the first time around. I don't understand why they can't put better films on - when you consider the postal service which is slightly more, you get all the latest releases. The trouble with that is that you cannot guarantee which film you will be sent and might not be in the mood for it, which is why I stopped that service. Personally it has been worth it to catch up with Desperate Housewives and 24 alone, but we'll see how I feel once I've finished season 8 of 24. I would be prepared to pay maybe £2 more a month to get all the latest releases though like the DVD service.

Oh god, now I've had to download an app to play stuff as they won't work on the ipad, and I can't find anything decent on the app!

I get new movies all the time, from 2012, for example.

Perhaps you're not searching by date and/or movie name?

Thanks UmTumMum, it does seem there's loads on the tv section... Do you have an ipad? I can't seem to find anything I want through the app...

I mean via DVD. I use streaming on my Kindle for TV.

I do the postal service and its fab. It's a very quick turn around for us, we mainly use it for films. We download to the Kindle Fire with no bother at all - we mainly use that for kids shows - Peppa, Ben and Holly.

I do find it hard to navigate, for instance I was on some other bit of it and clicked on to something by accident and it's all Adam Decon (whoever you spell it/say it but I know who I'm on about) films he's in or been involved in and I love all his films so I was very happy with that! Also me and the kids have watched a few good oldies like bed knobs and broomsticks and original charlie and the chocolate factory.

I think the films are pretty crap too and tend to watch the tv programmes more. Thinking of cancelling it tbh.

Hmm, I'm starting to find more things now but not attempted to watch anything yet. I may have been a bit hasty in calling it crap...

Yes jinx I noticed the game bit - that definitely did look good. Shouldn't have sold Xbox!

I'm only subscribed to the 'Watch it Now' bit and it's pretty naff.

I use the postal because I found lack of choice on streaming annoying, although postal can be rubbish too. For example no release date yet for The Hobbit or Argo.

We pay for their streaming service, the "watch now" ones and I am always wondering where you go to find new releases?!

We have watched lots of collections from TV series instead and I dont mind £6 a month for those but once we have watched the, all, I wouldnt bother with the films

didnt they have a big fall out with universal pictures? and I think, I may be wrong, that there was a block on their productions between X no of years? I think the fall out was resolved?

Id be genuinely interested to hear from lovefilm where their decent films are?!

The watch it now thing is shit, with hardly any choice. The postal thing has all dvds available in the Uk apparently.

Are the games on the streaming service or the postal services? Don't think I've found any of those.

Oh god, there's a film called Nude Nuns With Big Guns! Aaaahahahaha!!

Interesting t hear people say the postal option is better - I might use my trial to watch all these tv episodes then decide whether its worth upgrading/cancelling.

Oh no I don't stream through an Ipad although I think dp has a few times. I tend to watch it through the playstation.

We cancelled. We wanted it for new films which it hardly has.

They really don't make it easy to cancel. There's little info on the site, you have to call them. It's rubbish IMO, most of the movies we were sent were so old we'd already watched them on the TV.

Streaming is pants, but I use the postal service and really like it. However, we really don't get to the cinema any more so if you're more up to date than me you might not see it the same way. Also like the TV. I think the postal service is worth £10 a month in itself, but probably wouldn't pay the £5 for the streaming (that is free with our current sub) as there's usually nothing I want to watch on that. So to me, it's worth £10 but not £5 if that makes sense?

I was happy with the online package as I have recently discovered Grey's Anatomy and was happily ploughing my way through the episodes during periods of insomnia and ironing sessions, but the absolute BASTARDS have taken it off now and so I am stuck. I'm going to cancel it and specify that as my reason.
