this study suggesting the UK now has 7 social classes should provide plenty of fun

Not sure if where you buy pastry items from was one of the questions, but I hope it was Grin

I am Established Middle according to the short survey

It didn't ask about sausage rolls, twigs and shit and what vs pardon though :(

Ha ha ha ha I just did the questionnaire to find out which class I am. I may be many things but one I am not is Elite. Classing me as Elite discredits the whole thing IMO.

I would take Elite Grin

I would get a T-Shirt saying "Offically Leet" and wear it Grin

I took the test and conclude it's absolute bollocks Grin

We should make our own MN official one

Brown leather sofa? 42 inch tv? Goat? Waitrose or Asda? Plus all the other totally random things peopel get judged for on here

I think it's quite flawed in a way- I'm only 24, so most of my friends are at the bottom of the ladder in terms of career. Someone my age isn't likely to socialise with a university lecturer or fully qualified solicitor. Why would that impact on my class?

I'm an "Emergent Service Worker". I'm ok with that, because the blurb explaining it makes me sound more young and hip than I really am.

There is a lot of bollocks written about class and that survey is high up on the hierarchy of bollocksness. It's upper middle bollocks.

I took the test and am apparently Established Middle Class, or possibly Technical Middle class, depending on whether I include school plays as theatre or school concerts as listening to classical music.

I would say that's probably about right, their descriptions of both of those would seem to fit us, comfortably off, enjoy a range of 'cultural' activities, went to university.

In that test it seems to be more about what you do and who you know socially that what you actually have/earn.

It's odd as I don't see how who you know or what music you listen to has such an impact on your class

You may know a CEO but be a cleaner or vice versa

Or you may be a member of the aristocracy who likes rap music and knows a lorry driver

Ha, I'm 'elite' apparently, can't quite see it myself though. It definitely doesn't translate in to real life for me.

OhLori · 03/04/2013 09:14

I don't fit into any of the 7 categories, even remotely, so agree with Petite.

We're on the case :o.

I was gutted that they failed to ask my views on the use of the word serviette. Now that's the important stuff.

Grin exactly Hassled

Florida or Cornwall? George or Boden? Sofa or Settee? Grin

The creators of the study are clearly amatuers Grin

It's a bit silly really. I'm emergent service which is just odd because I'm not young and the title suggests social climber which I'm not.

Hmm...

No mention of toilet or lavatory either. Grin

Classes are artificially designed categories used to discriminate anyway.

We are all Jock Tamsons Bairns.

I did the test twice - identical answers except for firstly entering the amount that I earn now, and then putting in the amount that I will be getting when I retire in a month's time..... Waddya know, I shall plummet from Established middle class to Traditional working class - just by retiring...! Shock

I did the test three times, with reasonable variations in my answers. Was Elite twice and Technical middle class once. Think the latter is definitely more accurate.

Report
MrsMaryCooper · 03/04/2013 14:40

I'm technical middle class - small and distinct apparently. I want to be elite though

Report

I'm established middle class, I'm so ashamed! I'm DULL!
