AIBU?

To think the delivery driver could have come back??

Had to wait for a new dishwasher to be delivered today between 1 and 5 but have no-one else to do the school run so had no choice but to stick a note on the door saying "on school run - be back asap".
As sodding luck would have it they turned up in the 20 minutes that takes, read the note and left me a message saying they couldn't wait because they "didn't know how long I would be" (I didn't want to put a time I would be back as that seems to be an invitation for a burglar).
I called and pleaded for them to come back but got the whole "sorry love, not up to me, it's been "failed" now, you'll have to re-order"
Now I get that I should have been there the whole time, and Im not expecting they should have waited but AIBU to think they could have gone on to the next job (where they were when I called) then just come back??!!

Delivery drivers always seem to be like this; you weren't there - fuck you then, you only get one chance then that's it!
AIBU or are they being jobsworth cunts who probably just wanted to finish their rounds early?!

Who knows where their next drop was. They could have been miles away. They have to get all their deliveries done. What about the person waiting for the last delivery of the day? Is it fair that theirs is late because the driver had to go back to you?

He probably didn't just want to finish early, he probably just wanted to finish on time. Their rounds aren't worked out to allow for waiting around, and he could have had loads more deliveries to make before 5pm. He might not have been anywhere near your house for the rest of the round.

Sorry, I think YABU and unfair.

YADBU especially to use the language you used at the end of the post about them . You were in the wrong , you knew the time slot so should have either changed it to a more convenient one or got someone else to pick the children up .

I can completely understand your irritation, but I think YABU. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're simply not allowed to double back. Quite possibly if the order is "failed" then that's it, computer says no and all that.

Intensely irritating, but I doubt they could have done it even if they wanted to (and it probably happens at least once a day so you wouldn't want to help out after a while, it would make you late home every single day!)

Quite often they will phone 20 minutes ahead if you ask them, but I guess that still wouldn't have helped here.

YABU to be so vile about them. It's a PITA, but I managed to order dog food for delivery and have it delivered to our old house

YABU - if you have a delivery coming, especially a large one then you wait in. If you can't you arrange for someone to wait or for someone else to do school run.
The driver was just doing his job,I imagine has a certain number of morning deliveries to make and a certain route that makes sure he fits them all in. Of course he can't come back, it is selfish of you to expect he would.

See this is why I prefer delivery companies that give you an hour time frame and their drivers contact you if they may be delayed.

But YABU you could have requested a different day if you knew you wouldn't be in.

DH is an agency delivery driver and the amount a single driver is expected to deliver can be astronomical. You can't just clock off at 5.30, it all has to be delivered. DH was doing 13-14 hour days just of delivering parcels last week. The best thing would to have put your mobile number on the note.

How did he know what time 'back asap' meant? It is an utter pain in the arse waiting for deliveries but you did have a 1-5 slot so you should have organised it better or phoned and given a more convenient time.

YW already U before this insulting and unfair conclusion. Sure, it's bloody frustrating when this happens but unless you arrange (and probably pay extra for) a more specific time slot then you stay in.

To expect the driver to hang around until you decided to come home is unfair and unreasonable given the workload that they have to complete in a day. All of it, incidentally, most probably being monitored by a vehicle tracking system which means that your inability to get organised will almost certainly result in the driver getting a bollocking. Why should he/she risk that for you?

YANBU. They are jobsworth cunts and they ALWAYS call in the twenty or so minutes that you're on the school run.

Sometimes I have jobs stacked up - I'm not a delivery driver, but still - and if one of the clients is late or does not appear I move on.
Can't go back to a job - it's gone, it has to be rearranged. Can't wait - can't be late for the next one.

having said that, delivery drivers usually ring half an hour in advance to let you know they are on the way to you. Why didn't they do that?
And I do hate those long slots of waiting with a passion, but that how it is.

Yabu. Jobs worth? Well maybe getting his job done to the best he can is more in his interests than a customer,who doesn't wait in despite agreeing a time. He isn't a cunt but maybe someone is.

The company may be unreasonable in giving you a 4 hour window, they should know to within an hour when they will be making a delivery. The driver OTOH didn't know what ASAP meant and it was just bad luck.

Wow, talk about you be unreasonable. Why on earth should they wait around for you? Perhaps the driver actually wants to get back to his family tonight. His next drop could have been 20 miles from you. The world doesn't revolve around your school run.

Two delivery drivers delivered my couch to me a few months ago. He told me that they had 33 deliveries to do that day - over a big geographical area. They have loads to get in and I expect couldn't just nip back.
