Rihanna was born in 1988.

By the time she was old enough to take an interest in fashion, the 90s were pretty much over.

This is "retro" for her.

Not "I wore this when I was young and stupidly thought it looked good", but "something from before my time that it is interesting to revive".

I was born in 1989 and I don't think it's retro, just hideous.

Every other decade is reused so why not the 90s?

What was she wearing? Link?

I still own, and wear, clothes that I had in the 90s. This is because I resent spending money on new clothes when old ones still fit me, and I am too lazy to go and buy more.

This is probably very bad, fashion wise.

Luckily I don't care.

There is some hideous fashion from any era, but it depends what you mean...

To me, 90s was all tartan kilts with big safety pins, lime green and orange nylon...

Link please

tbf most of what I wore in the 90's I wear now i.e jeans and t-shirt and a variation of the posh spice lbd minus the rachel haircut

However, I'll cream if that whole clueless get up thing i wore come back in fashion

The 90s seem pretty nondescript fashion-wise from what I remember (or don't remember as the case seems to be! Confused)

Report
Ilovexmastime · 16/03/2013 19:02

To me, the 90s was grunge.

I remember thinking as a youngster "thank goodness we don't have silly clothes that we'll look back and laugh at, like the seventies"

This was about 1986 Confused

The 90's was bad! Especially the early 90's, find it incredibly bizarre to see young girls wearing what I wore back then.

Norbert I've been sat here trying to remember what was fashionable in the 90s. DS was born in '92 and DD in '94 so I think most of it passed me by in a blur.

I reckon things haven't really changed though, just been renamed.

eg. 'grunge' now seems to be the skater kids in their straight jeans, unbuttoned check shirts and trainers? 'Goth' is now emo?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/03/2013 19:06

Well, haven't leggings been back for ages? And I never thought that would happen again.

I'm afraid my brain is stuck on the fact she was born in 1988. I hadn't quite computed that she was younger than me. Blush

Sad

OTOH, I did watch some early ER the other day and found myself quite fancying those big loose coats they're all wafting about in. Bizarre.

I saw some kids today...could not take my EYES off them. They were SO 80s it was ridiculously REAL. I thought I'd walked into a time warp.

The lads were wearing these massive sunglasses and what appeared to be SHELL TOPS!

Goth is not emo

Trying to think what would have been so hideous (apart from the lime green and orange, which were vile even at the time). I was an indie kid at the beginning of the decade, so DMs, second hand '50s dresses and band t-shirts, and a clubber for a lot of it, mainly clubby dresses, denim skirts, trainers etc. It doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as '80s big hair and shoulder pads or '70s flares.

What's Rhianna been wearing? I mean, it's generally so little I'm surprised you can pin a decade to it.

I was born in 82, so my teens were well and truly in the 90's! My 14 year ofd niece is currently sporting many of the things I did - denim cut offs with black tights, camouflage jackets, purple Doc Martens, velvet blazers, coloured denim - even the awful cloth rucksacks we all had back then seem to be having a moment! I can't quite believe it, but it definitely seems to be happening! I wasn't expecting to see things 'come back around' yet!

yes I've seen that too peas...my DD has some neon t shirts as well...it's a matter of HOURS before they're all sporting "neon push down socks and strappy black buckled shoes to school!

Oh is grunge back?

I've been waiting for all those lovely baggy jumpers, long stubbly leg covering skirts and messy hair to come back. 'Tis a very flattering fashion for me Grin

I really loved the late 90's when all you had to do to be dressed up was chuck a load of glitter over yourself and you were done...

I'll feel old when there are devoted 90's nightclubs though.

Report
NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/03/2013 19:15

Sparkly only flattering if you're under 25 surely! And don't need to cover up....on anyone who was there the first time, it would be more bag lady than grunge!
