Have lifted much of the concept from Rastamouse, (but made the crimes rather more serious obviously)?

I love death in paradise. Wish they would hurry up with new series.

Literally made me laugh out loud and my baby is giving you a round of applause! Absolutely think that is exactly what has happened. Less cheese theft though....

I do spend most of my time planning my holiday there (presuming I'm not caught up in a grizzly murder that is...)

I love it too, although I get slightly annoyed that so many characters are Brits.

It looks like an amazing place doesn't it Bibble I'd love a holiday there (like you assuming neither I, nor those I love get killed - although if they did Richard would ensure that justice was done!)

I love that show if only for the lovely scenery!

I think it's Scooby Doo for adults (myth of hidden treasure kept alive to keep tourists coming, etc)

It's also a terrific guilty pleasure of mine.

It reminds me of Bergerac, which I also enjoyed.

I've really enjoyed watching it during our miserable winter. An hour of sun & escapism a week.

Ooh I love Bergerac. It's great for spotting people who've gone on to do loads of other things too.

Plus the Channel Islands are lovely.

Too true, man!

The preponderance of Brits gets on my nerves, too! I suspect even Camille may be one, as her French accent is a bit dodgy at times.

I love the Dwayne-Fidel combo.

I love this show so much!

Writers take note: you must slip in a cheese reference in the next series. It could be the quirky item that seems irrelevant but turns out to be a vital clue. Grin

comelywenchlywoo · 10/03/2013 10:41

Yes yes to the cheese being a vital clue - they've done one with tea, so cheese should absolutely be next!

I love Dwayne and Fidel too - I loved when Dwayne broke into the post office to get Fidel's results - so sweet.

I watched the first series, in secret, because I would never dare admit to anyone who knows me that I watch it. Blush

It is (was) a secret pleasure, but not so much that I dared risk having it on the Sky Planner for anyone to see so I haven't watched the second series!

No, the actress that plays Camille is very definitely French, and in fact she has that same almost unbelievable accent and the hand-waving when she's being interviewed about the part as well. It's very comic.

I don't understand why it's such a guilty pleasure: it's fun, and Ben Miller has such sarcastic credentials, from the Armstrong & Miller Show, that it shld be socially acceptable! Not like that ghastly Rosemary and Time - twee, twee, yawn! (they were missing Dwayne and Fidel!)

Thanks for that , GrendelsMum. I've now remembered that it was her cod-French pronunciation of "Vincent" (I think she even enunciated the "t") which made me particularly suspicious.

I love the beginning before the credits: big, dramatic murder ... dum dum dummmmmmmm ...... and then it goes to the lovely Caribbean style theme tune!

Do you know what? I think I'm going to order series one on DVD. Grin

I love this show. We backpacked a few years ago and spent some time on some of the Central American caribbean islands. The scenery really really takes me back. That, and the laid back attitudes. At the dock of Caye Caulker in Belize, there's a mosaic on the ground that says "welcome to Caye Caulker. Relax"! Grin

What's really great about Death In Paradise is that it was conceived as the result of an open competition for writers. It's so rare for opportunities like this to arise never mind that it's produced a huge hit show.

comelywenchlywoo · 10/03/2013 22:36

I didn't realise it was written by competition writers (IYSWIM), it's not a guilty pleasure for me at all - I love it!

Will there be a series 3? Will Richard and Camille ever get it on? Do the writers watch cbeebies after-all? So many questions! Richard would know...........

I hope Richard and Camille don't get together. I thought she was in her 30s or late 20s at least, to have fitted in all her studies, but her school friendship with Murdered Amy indicates early 20s. Meanwhile, given his position and experience, he's got to be at least 40.

Her mother would probably push it, though: she has done a number on Camille's confidence, hasn't she? All those useless blind dates, because of course a woman mustn't be a spinster! Only a merry widow or divorcee? like Catherine!

Humph.

DD has very excitedly assured me there will be a series 3! She and I watched the first, but dh turned his nose up at it. He has since learnt the error of his ways, particularly as dd and I have told him he's very like the Ben Miller character. Grin

I wonder if there will be an orphanage in the next series?

It is indeed written by someone brand new to telly. Although he had had lots of attempts before. This was his first actual production.

I loved death in paradise, made the winter less miserable. Didn't realise there was a series one! Blush

Yes maybe I like the idea of them getting together better than I'd actually like it. Then long may the unresolved sexual tension continue! Will Richard ever take off his suit??

From time to time I like to imagine them 6 years in the future, solving inexplicable murders while hauling round a baby and a small child. (Camille clearly can't go on maternity leave as it would cut the Sainte Marie police force by 25%).

Things that provide endless discussion in the Grendel Household - is it more or less appropriate to wear a woolen suit or a pair of microshorts and a strappy top while interviewing suspects in the Caribbean?
