to be shocked by this attitude?

Or is it because of my personal history that I am more sensitive?

Work friend today mentioned she had changed pills because previous didn't agree with her. Can't remember when she stopped first and is going to start taking second (Think another week before she takes new one) but anyway Dr told her to use condoms for a week because won't be covered. She has decided she can't be bothered with them - her boyfriend agrees. She then paused and said "It will probably be fine. I wouldn't have a baby at my age (21) though, no way! Am far too young, would just get rid if I got preg."

AIBU to think if you plan on having an abortion if you get pregnant then you should just use condoms or not have sex, it is only a week!

She knows about my history of preg loss, felt she was a bit insensitive saying that too. But I don't know if I am overly shocked by it because of my history iykwim?

What do you think? Is this a common attitude?

YANBU, disgusting attitude.

She is a stupid cow not to take responsibility for that week.

Sadly it does seem to be a prevalent attitude. A friend of one of dd's friends has had 8 abortions and she's 18.

YANBU at all. Really, really not.

What a plank.

YANBU.

I don't like that attitude at all. I don't think abortion should be thought of as a form of contraception.

YANBU - very crappy attitude.

YANBU. Words fail me. She sounds a bit dim to say the least. Shock at YouTheCats post.

How hard is it to use a condom?

It also supports the view that women often use abortion as contraception when that is just a tiny minority of people. It undermines a reproductive right that's already under attack.

Even from a purely self-interest point of view, I'm sure even an early abortion is hardly a walk in the park.

I use 2 forms of contraception at all times, though (paranoid, me? Hush now)

Daft mare.

I hate it when people do this. It always shocks me when I hear about it. YADNBU

But I really think it is a very small number of people.

YANBU. At all. Even without your history. I'm all for a woman's right to choose but I think it's disgusting to be SO blasé about it as to not give a shit about getting pregnant because it can be dealt with anyhow.

She can't keep her legs crossed for a week? Oh dear.

YADNBU. Abortion is not a form of birth control. Couldn't they just abstain for the week if they are too fucking lazy can't use condoms.

The scant regard of contraception is just backwards.

her attitude is not a healthy but I think it shows lack of respect for her body more than anything and I wonder how keen her boyfriend is on using condoms and is he concerned about her getting pregnant

StuntGirl · 06/03/2013 18:15

YANBU. There are better, cheaper options available to her and she's simply choosing not to use them. She's an idiot (and so's her boyfriend).

YANBU. Disgusting attitude and insensitive. If condoms are really so bad, just don't have sex. Pathetic.

If she doesn't want to use condoms, how hard is it to not have sex for a week?

I hate my age group sometimes.

Quite aside from the insensitivity of saying this you OP, she clearly hasn't got a clue how difficult it is to actually get an abortion.

Silly girl.

YANBU

Used to have a friend who refused to use contraception, and yet hated children.

She ended up with two DC's who she was quick to dump on others, and she'd say, in front of the DC's, that they ruined her life.

I think she is a very immature girl, not only with her attitude to pregnancy but announcing her beliefs at work.
Maybe she set out to shock, or gain attention.
Never mind she'll learn.

YANBU.

Abortion has it's place, but should never be used casually or as a "contraceptive".

Totally agree with the YANBUs about abortion, but is there any chance she was just thick and meaning the Morning after pill?

Still totally irresponsible, but not as bad. Still YANBU!

youthecat I think you and your daughter are being a bit too quick to believe rumours! Very very very few women have had 8 abortions, let alone by age of 18! I think that's teenage exaggeration.
