AIBU?

My name is NOT Julie...

So I am reasonably friendly with a mum at the school. Our DC are both 6 and we have known each other for 16 or so months. Our kids play together in the holidays, do a club together and have tea etc, so a fair amount of contact.

I'm called Julia. She has always, ALWAYS called me Julie. I have corrected her twice over the months. Nicely but emphatically. The first time she said it I smiled and said ' It's Julia or Jules, either of those is fine, ' and the second time I just said ' Eeek! I don't like Julie.. it's julia! ' again with a smile. I have also corrected her son in front of her when he has said it.

She is the sort who use your name A LOT. And still she says Julie.

So.. would this irritate you? Annoy you? Not bother you?

It annoys the FUCK out of me Grin

Yep that would boil my piss. Especially as you've corrected her.

Not bother me. I have a name that people constantly mispronounce. I don't particularly like the mispronunciation but figure it is pretty tiny in the scheme of things and roll with it. People don't do it on purpose. I generally only correct if it is important or people ask.

There's a bloke at work with me who does the same thing to me.

He keeps saying it and I keep saying "no it's Julia" AND HE DOESN'T FUCKING LISTEN and he says my name over and over and over like he's making a point.

I feel your pain.

I have a name that is often misheard or misremembered. I don't get wound up by it, and usually don't correct people in case I embarrass them. I can live with it.

I only correct those that I want to make feel stupid Grin

It would annoy me.

People often say my name wrong its similar to a much more boring name.

It irritates the hell out of me.

But is the name Julia so difficult to hear? It's completely different to julie- especially when you have corrected the person several times.

Heh heh re deaf granny

I know someone who repeatedly calls me Ruth - nowhere near my name! I don't know where she got that from. It makes me smile inside every time.

You know my ds had a girlfriend called Kathy. His ex was Katie and I managed to get her name wrong all the time.

She was katie( oops) kitty Karen and more weirdly catriona...

Sometimes it becomes a habit... But it must have annoyed the hell out if her as she dumped him and in the row told my ds that I was a bitch who did it on purpose!!! Felt so awful.

I'm a Julie that gets called Julia. It's a whole extra syllable. I don't get it. It's mildly irritating but yes, to be continually called it would bug me.

My name isn't complicated, isn't very uncommon and I speak clearly. Still people get it wrong. I can't get cross about it, it's an innocent mistake by those cloth eared fools

I quite often get Jessie or Josey. Neither of which are my name, but are closer to it that Lauren, which is what one customer at work insists on calling me.

It doesn't bother me with acquaintances, but a friend should get it right.

Can you do the same thing back? Bloke at work constantly got my surname slightly wrong, so I started calling him Jason instead of Justin. It did the trick.

Call her by a name that is slightly wrong and see if she notices?

Maybe her brain is sadistic like mine. My friend's son is called Benjamin. I've known him since he was born. I know his name. But for some reason, much to my embarassment, whenever I ask her how he's doing my brain takes it upon itself to delete Benjamin and insert Samuel instead. They're not even similar ConfusedBlush

Would get right on my tits, especially having corrected her twice. I would keep correcting her until she gets it right, perhaps in an ever-less jokey way?

amillionyears · 22/02/2013 18:25

Do you think she can help it?
Does she get other people's names wrong as well?

Perhaps she knows another Julie?

I would correct her, every time and see what happens first either she gets it right or gives up. Just repeat Juli-a every time as if you were speaking to a small child learning to talk and if you feel like it chuckle and say we will get it right eventually.

It would really annoy me.

I have a Bernard at work that I always call Dennis - don't ask me why and I really wish I didn't do it but I do.

My name is Tracey. I go to college once a week. I am in the second year. My DD is in the first year. There is one other second year. He always calls me Stacey. Every time he calls me it, my DD nearly wets herself laughing!

Everyone else calls me Tracey (apart from DD), they use my name a lot. Why can he not get it?

YANBU!!
