To hate and loathe 'chain' Facebook posts

You know the ones like:
Press like if you love your grandma, ignore if you want her to die.
And one I saw this evening: story about a girl who was killed and her killers all died in the same way. If it's true then horrid story but....at the end it said repost this, if you don't her ghost will get you.
I cannot stand these chain posts, just as bad as chain letters. They make my blood boil Angry

YANBU.

I saw that one too. One of my friends posted it with the comment OMG! I desperately wanted to ask if she'd reposted cos she was worried about the dead girl laughing at her from down the plug hole but couldn't think if a way to word it without sounding mean.

They are all made up drivel, YANBU at all.
I also hate the 'like and/or comment' crap which most people don't realise are a good way of getting into your account.
It's all crap.

YANBU

Astonishing how gullible people are.

Report
ThreeBeeOneGee · 12/02/2013 19:56

You need some more sensible / less gullible / more discerning friends.

Oh god 'repost if you don't want babies to die'... '1 million likes and we'll get our chemo treatment paid for'

No!

Lots of them have proven to be fakes. I read an article (which I can't find now, sorry) which quoted a mum who had lost a child to cancer. Her daughter's photo had started doing the rounds 2 years after her death with one of those 'like if you want her to be free of cancer' captions. The poor family having to confronted with that.

It sickens me that people are that desperate for likes. I put up a warning that I'd unfriend people making this stuff appear on my wall. I've unfriended 3.

YANBU!

What I don't understand is, that everytime somebody posts something like this on MN, everybody always agrees. I have never seen anybody post to say that they love those posts and always pass them on. So, where are all the chainpost posters? Hmm Come out, explain yourselves!

Think I need to stay away from facebook for a while, so many things on there make me want to hurl the computer at the wall

YANBU and also they are to make money... the page to be liked gets loads of hits, then sold on as a ready made popular page.

I love the chain funnies (especially the pope/sith lord photoshop) ... no I can't think up my own jokes, which would be nice, but a funny is a funny.

I absolutely LOATHE the Muslim/Gay/whatever bashing chainposts (deleted someone the other day for that).

I don't mind the chain posts that raise awareness.

I hate how people believe a post without doing a quick google... the most recent was Bill Cosby's "I'm 83 and tired"... he didn't write it, and thought the words and views were UGLY... it was penned by an ex senator. Although the quick google could also be wrong!

Like this if you hate cancer, comment if you know a cure, don't share and you'll get AIDS, don't like and you obviously don't care... I mean WTAF???

Some of the people are actually, in real life, intelligent, articulate, sensible people, what happened????

aldiwhore · 12/02/2013 20:05

Oh as for fake ones... one went around recently, a picture of a beautiful woman with a shaved head, the caption read "She has cancer and is still smiling, what a brave beautiful woman, like if you agree".... on about comment 364383456 of "I agree" the owner of the photograph commented "I don't have cancer you total fuckwit I have a shaved head because I like it" - and yes, everyone turned on her.

I saw the 'they hurt her' one as well. The person who reposted it was a 36 yo mum of three, and I thought quite intelligent. Maybe she just shared it in a nostalgic Candyman sort of way. She was quite into that stuff as a teenager.

I don't see many of the chain bollocksy ones but am getting increasing grumpy at the "Life is what you make it/The answers lie within you/There are no mistakes, only lessons" inspirational picture type bollocks. I don't need some trite twee sentimental shite to motivate me, thanks. And if you do, fair enough - but stick it on an actual wall, not your FB wall.

I bloody hate these. If I get 1million likes I'll call my pet dog Algernon - no I get 1million likes I'll sell this page on to a marketing company.

Or if you don't like this page you want babies to die/think puppies aren't cute/think cancer's ok. FUCK OFF

Sorry hassled I'll hold my hand up & admit I'm one of the people who reposts tweet shite.

Or the "click like and watch what happens" posts. You might as well have "click here if you're a bit dim" written there.

Report
ifherbumwereabungalow · 12/02/2013 20:16

I was thinking the same thing just the other day. I also despise the ones that start "Police warning THIS IS NOT A FAKE" then go on about some new technique used by rapists/burglars/carjackers. It takes me a moment to get the story debunked by Snopes or Hoax Slayer, why don't other people check before reposting??!!

Hassled · 12/02/2013 20:16

Oh now I feel like the intolerant cow I am. Sorry.

Report
tallulah · 12/02/2013 20:22

I generally ignore them but the one that really riles me is the repost if you know someone who has been affected by cancer, which is somehow going to link to a miracle cure if you do. I have had cancer, and all my FB friends know that, yet they repost this crap. I find it really offensive.

I've had the fake carjacker/rapist/child abduction ones on Facebook and emailed to me Angry If I do get the emails I can't stop myself from replying to sender "You do realise this is fake don't you?" In a terribly PA way Grin

Gah and the stupid ones saying "click ghe picture and type 1"

Really fricking annoying.

Because people who you are friends with 'like' them and they pop up on your feed. I posted a warning to my friends that if they likes any of that shit then I would delete them. That comment got about 50 likes, and I have followed through.

It only backfired when husbands cousin notices I had deleted him and added me again smacks face with palm

YABNU.

Any post that says 'I know most of you won't have the courage to share this...' immediately makes me refuse to share it, even if it's something I agree with.
