AIBU?

...to keep this delivery?

Hi folks, moral dilemma here.

Ordered a towel bale for £30 from ebay on 26th Jan, it arrived on 29th Jan and I left positive feedback for the seller. Last night I got an e-mail notification that the order had been despatched (again) thought it might just be an admin mistake but this morning I received another towel bale.

The seller is a large national company's ebay discount outlet. If it was a private seller I would contact them and tell them of their mistake but as it's a large national company I'm tempted just to keep the second lot of towels and say nowt on the basis that they should be able to manage their ordering system better!

What would you do?

Are the towels nice? What's the company? I need new towels.

If they were nice towels and I'd use them, I'd probably keep them Blush

Morally, though, (and legally, really!) you should probably contact them. They may even tell you to keep them, rather than the hassle of returning them.

I would without a second thought.

I would send them back, without a doubt. I also do when this happens. Stealing is stealing....

YABU.

Have you checked you haven't been charged twice? I would ring them up and let them know.

AIBU? Yes.

Honestly, I would feel guilty every time I used them if I didn't send them back.

The company made a silly mistake, but they aren't yours to keep. I would notify the company and see if they want to collect them, which is all you need to do by law. They may just say forget about it and you can use them with a clear conscience.

I've not been charged twice so far, will give it a week to see if anything appears on my bank statement. If I do get charged again then I'll keep them as I've paid for them.

If I haven't been charged twice I'll contact them and let them know about their mistake.

They should know that they've been delivered twice as I've had to sign for them twice.

I won't use them until I've sorted it out.

trills realise that AIBU is different to WWYD but I'm kinda asking both questions here.

I would probably email them to let them know and to say that if they want the second one returned they should send me a postage paid label. Very unlikely it will be worth their while and they will likely respond telling you to keep them. If they don't answer at all I would'nt chase them and probably stick them in a cupboard and in six months or so assume they were mine and use them.

I would ring/email and let them know that you've received two lots of the same order.

This lets them know that something is wrong within their system. And they may let you keep them.

I would let them know but make it clear the onus is on them to pay and arrange the return.

Not rude, just that what I think you should do is not necessarily the same as what I would do :o

I would let them know and offer to return them if they send a pre-paid label/ courier and keep my fingers crossed that they don't bother to do so. I couldn't keep them knowing that I hadn't paid for them. I also think that with the number of large businesses cutting back and going bankrupt, the argument that they are a large company doesn't mean anything at the moment. I would have to confess that when a friend gave me a "Frothie" (hot chocolate maker) as a gift and we discovered that the company had posted 2 cases (4 in each) rather than 2 individual items, she decided that she wasn't going to tell them, and I got 4! Still feel guilty about it, but it wasn't my call as I didn't pay for them and I'm sticking to it! Grin

I had a parcel delivered wrongly to me by amazon. I contacted them to let them know and the options they gave me for returning it weren't very 'customer friendly' ie waiting in for a courier with a 4 hour time slot or paying for the postage and reclaiming so in the end I just kept it. Haven't heard anything since. In my defence it wasn't very expensive

As an ebay business seller I'd want them sent back!

The very fact you're asking suggests you KNOW what you should be doing, I'd suggest you do exactly that and stop listening to the naughty pixies telling you that it's fine to keep them

Return them (let them pay by all means) and sleep well with a clean conscience.

I don't think that the fact it is a business makes any difference to the moral responsibility to offer to return it. Not every business is a huge, multi-million pound turnover concern, able to absorb a loss of a few quid here or there - and even big, multi-million pound businesses have a tipping point beyond which they can't carry on trading.

I regularly get my groceries delivered by Tesco, and several times they have left me some of someone else's shopping - and every time I have rung customer services to tell them. They have always told me to keep the stuff, but I wouldn't just keep it without asking.

I had similar recently; ordered something from large company, chased it up when it hadn't arrived 2 weeks later, then two turned up! I phoned them and they said to just keep both.
