A woman at work keeps talking about her 'holibobs'. The word makes me cringe a bit (well a lot really) Grin. Am I just in the minority of people who don't refer to their holidays as 'holibobs'??

YANBU

It's awful to hear grown adults using this language. I imagine women like Anthea Turner go on their hollibobs.

YANBU. Argh. I worked with a woman who did the same. She booked her holibobs on "t'internet" (also irritating).

Presumably, she'll be going on holibobs for Chrimbo with her hubby and bubs?

LOL worra - it really does! Where did this word actually come from. It's not like it's easier to say than holiday like 'hols' for example. It has that fingernails on the blackboard feeling for me!

Holibobs is a very lower middle class thing to say.

Did a 3 year old thread really need to be revived over the word 'holibob'? (It's a silly word, but still).

Abbreviating words in general is quite irritating to me (although in the case of 'holibobs' it's just as many letters and syllables so not actually shortening the word) How lazy do you have to be to not be arsed to say a whole word? We are not Australian (ie discard all of the word bar the first syllable and add an 'o')

Ice
please come back and tell us.
Did you advance search the word holibobs?!
Do you work for MNHQ in secret, reviving dead threads?
Are you a prepper looking for practice?
Or were you Kelly three years ago?

I googled it and was chuffed that I discovered others who find the expression as annoying as me. It's not a dead thread so I'd thought I'd chuck my two-penneth in for what it's worth. Ok? 😉
