A woman at work keeps talking about her 'holibobs'. The word makes me cringe a bit (well a lot really) grin. Am I just in the minority of people who don't refer to their holidays as 'holibobs'??

PhilMcAverty Tue 05-Feb-13 10:34:13

Nah, holibobs are totes amazeballs.

HousewifeFromHeaven Tue 05-Feb-13 10:35:42

Yabu to discuss holidays in February. It has to wait until march. Fact smile

YANBU

It's awful to hear grown adults using this language. I imagine women like Anthea Turner go on their hollibobs.

everybodysang Tue 05-Feb-13 10:59:13

I think I'd want to punch her in the faceybobs

just. howling.

I've never heard it.

IndiansInTheLobby Tue 05-Feb-13 11:01:36

Can't stand it!!! When did people start using these stupid words?

Katla Tue 05-Feb-13 11:02:15

YANBU. Argh. I worked with a woman who did the same. She booked her holibobs on "t'internet" (also irritating).

FrantasticO Tue 05-Feb-13 11:03:36

Much prefer holibags, much more mature me thinks!

SageBush Tue 05-Feb-13 11:03:52

YANBU.

Presumably, she'll be going on holibobs for Chrimbo with her hubby and bubs? <boak>

Actually in tears of laughter at I think I'd want to punch her in the faceybobs grin

It is not an annoying as the word ikkles.......

When you colleague takes her ikkles on holibobs then feel free to punch her in the faceybobs with your fisteybobs!! smile

Lmao, Betty top of the class!

KellyElly Tue 05-Feb-13 11:38:35

LOL worra - it really does! Where did this word actually come from. It's not like it's easier to say than holiday like 'hols' for example. It has that fingernails on the blackboard feeling for me!

miranda13 Tue 05-Feb-13 11:39:32

Holibobs is a very lower middle class thing to say.

IndiansInTheLobby Tue 05-Feb-13 11:49:48

Ha ha. Why does so much seem to end up being put into a bloody class on Mumsnet! In my experience it has naff all to do with what 'class' the person is from.

browneyedpixie Tue 05-Feb-13 11:54:12

I hate it!!!

lceyork Tue 21-Jun-16 11:25:29

It's such a twee expression.

Abinob Tue 21-Jun-16 11:27:08

I always think of people who say hollibobs and othet shit likr that as really happy people. Doesn't annoy me really but I'm clearly not one of these really happy people

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 21-Jun-16 11:28:41

I think it's sweet.

Although I love MaccyD too so what do I know.

EdmundCleverClogs Tue 21-Jun-16 11:42:59

Did a 3 year old thread really need to be revived over the word 'holibob'? (It's a silly word, but still).

Mimicat44 Tue 21-Jun-16 11:44:07

Abbreviating words in general is quite irritating to me (although in the case of 'holibobs' it's just as many letters and syllables so not actually shortening the word) How lazy do you have to be to not be arsed to say a whole word? We are not Australian (ie discard all of the word bar the first syllable and add an 'o')

KimmySchmidtsSmile Tue 21-Jun-16 11:47:53

Ice
please come back and tell us.
Did you advance search the word holibobs?!
Do you work for MNHQ in secret, reviving dead threads?
Are you a prepper looking for practice?
Or <reveals mask> were you Kelly three years ago?
