...especially given that there's still snow on the ground?

You mean they've been round near you? Crikey. They're nuts!

haha, yes, very premature!

Did you see it? Or just hear it? It might not have been an ice cream van if you just heard it. We had a fish and chip van round our streets tonight. Much more appropriate for the weather.

It's never too cold for an oyster delight with red sauce. In the coldest countries, people eat ice cream, as it helps you to warm up. I have eaten it in parks in Poland, Russia, at 10 degrees below.
The same way people in hot countries use the heat from cups of tea, spicy food to cool down.

Our ice cream van sells hotdogs and comes round every day except Christmas day.

Ds and I had icecream cones today whilst strolling along the promenade at our local seaside resort.

On calendar local news earlier the ice cream van was sitting at the bottom of the hill in roundhay park that people were skiing down

Where I grew up the ice cream van came round every day of the week regardless of weather, twice on Sundays and had Christmas Day and Boxing day off. Smile He was dependable!

I heard ours yesterday or the day before. Still snow on the ground!

But, if people are buying, I guess he's right to be out there.

Ours is like a late night newsagents. But with dodgy imported cigarettes and alcohol.

You do know ice cream vans often sell drugs? Probably all clamped down on these days. Google the ice cream wars - cant imagine they were having a turf war over where they sold the mr whippy ......

the ice cream van near here comes round in the dark, in the rain, after 7pm - how many children are going to be queuing up? none. just the people wanting the drugs.

i've tried different methods to check my theory. i mentioned it to gang-linked pupils saying "i think..." and got the response "you don't think, miss, you know!" and i went to buy an ice-cream - guess what? he didn't have any. he managed to find a sad-looking ice lolly. on that occasion, the man in front of me had 'the usual' dropped in a tub but with no ice cream on top...because there wasn't any....

so glad its widely known!

Weirdly our ice cream van only comes round in winter, never in the summer Confused

And he always comes around 4.30/5pm, I feel like telling him that perhaps he would get more business if he didn't come round right before dinner time!

We get 3 rounds in the summer holidays, 3pm 6pm then again about 9/10pm. I don't think there's much ice cream on board for the late run.

We used to have an ice cream can that sold stuff. He was always very surprised if you actually asked for an ice cream.

Those of you with druggy ice cream vans: why haven't you reported them to the police?

Celticlassie · 27/01/2013 09:32

I've seen one (fairly) near us, out at about 10 on a Saturday night.

[Hmm]

The police know all about them, Fakebook. I guess they'd rather keep an eye on them out in the open. (They're pretty obvious.)

Even ice cream men need to make a wage in the winter. I'm quite happy to buy them in the winter, I'll just eat them on my sofa by the open fire. :)

Fakebook it's hardly a new phenomenon, nor will it be news to the police.
